 About the Burrow 0˚

The Burrow works for both hammockers and ground-dwellers alike. It is a lightweight sleeping quilt that takes the insulation of a traditional sleeping bag and puts it all on the top and sides, leaving the back (which insulation is compressed and unusable anyway) open. Many hammockers use top quilts in lieu of a traditional sleeping bag because they are easier to slide into when it's time to sleep. The Burrow is designed with a half taper, foot box and a cinched top. Comes complete with a stuff sack.

Filled with the finest water resistant, 850 fill power goose down on the market, the 0°F Burrow is the warmest standard topquilt we offer.

Well, I did it. I slept on the ground. Yes, I said I slept on the ground. Used my new HammockGear 20º Custom Burrow on my Exped Downmat XP9. Neede to see if a TQ would really do the job. Fabric

All Hammock Gear quilts are made of ARGON fabric. All ARGON fabric is specifically designed ripstop nylon which is manufactured for Hammock Gear. We offer both 10 and 15 denier weights with certain colors only available in one or the other. ARGON 67 (10d) weighs 0.67oz/square yard while ARGON 90 (15d) weighs 0.90 oz/square yard. It has a Durable Water Resistant (DWR) finish. The DWR not only improves the water resistance of ARGON , it also enhances the fabric by improving overall strength, tightening the weave and thus increasing its down-proofness. Calendaring of the fabric further enhances the down-proofness of the quilt.

Baffles

All of our quilts (except the Burrow 50) make use of baffle (also known as "box baffle") construction. This means that the seams between the down-filled chambers are not sewn through, but instead consist of a fabric wall about .75 to 3 inches tall, depending on the model. The Burrow 50, the lightest of our Top Quilts, uses sewn-through construction.

Temperature Ratings

At Hammock Gear, we use temperature ratings which are very conservative. Compare them in the marketplace and you will agree. Here is a point we wish to emphasize: the first and most important step you must take when choosing a quilt by temperature is to Know Thyself. Are you a Cold sleeper, a Warm sleeper, or maybe a Really Warm sleeper? Factor this into your selection process and you will be much better off.

Footbox

Two options are available: Sewn footbox or Snap Footbox. The sewn option is a permanent footbox approximately 20 inches long, measured from the bottom. A sewn footbox is fully enclosed/fully insulated, and thus allows no cold spots. It is recommended for 0° - 20° temps. The Snap version allows the quilt to be fully opened and to lie flat. 5 snaps are used. It is recommended for temps above 20°. When closed the snap version, which has a drawcord closure, has an opening of approximately one inch. Some users, depending on conditions/temps, will use a clothing item or small piece of foam pad to plug this hole. Many HG customers enjoy using their quilts in the home, and love the versatility of using the quilt “blanket style” or as a “throw”, and the snap version fits the bill.

Colors

Select your choice of exterior color from our current stock. The color of the interior fabric is your choice of black or charcoal gray.

Taper

Our top quilts are built with a standard Half-Taper design. Custom work is available if you have different requirements.

Cord Loops

Quilts come standard with attachment cord loops (these can be omitted by request).

  • Excellent top quilt

    by Eric Dirks – 10th Jan 2017

This is my 5th purchase from hammock gear and, as always, the craftsmanship is excellent plus fast shipping over the busy holiday season. I tested it out for the first time recently and managed to stay warm at an overnight low of -4. I highly recommend this product.

  • Outstanding Quality and Workmen's Ship

    by Mike – 29th Dec 2016

I previously ordered the Incubator 0 and just went back for the Borrows 0 Top Quilt. Without exception both are of the finest materials, workman’s ship and attention to detail - I was pleased with the detailed nuisances of both. During my ‘pre-order’ consultation they answered all questions and helped me zero in on the specifics that I wanted. Part of my order included small triangles for some modifications I am making they through in at no charge some gross gain straps to go with it…a very nice touch. Thanks.

  • Awesome and worth every penny!!!!!

    by DrHydrate – 29th Dec 2016

I purchased the Burrow 0 and the incubator 0 and if you are a hammock person interested in light weight warmth you can't go wrong. Even if you are a tent camper get this and you won't be disappointed. Great piece of equipment and keeps you warm and still breathes well, can't say enough good things!!!!

  • Burrow 0

    by Greg N. – 22nd Dec 2016

If you're looking for a top quilt, and you found this site, stop looking, you're done. The quilts that Hammock Gear sells are what you need. I have a sewn footbox and one with snaps and both are legit. They are lightweight, warm, and are made to last. I've had them in temps in the single digits and I haven't been cold. I use them primarily in my hammock, but have gone to the ground as well. I have an incubator UQ as well and the combination is perfect. As I previously stated, these are the cats pajamas, and while I have no idea what that means, I do know these quilts are the best.

  • amazing quilt!

    by Marshall " Chesapeake " Moore – 21st Nov 2016

I recently ordered a custom length 0° Burrow and couldn't be happier. After a few emails back and forth, I went with a short/ standard and had them remove 5" from the length to fit my short stature a little better. I also had 3oz of overstuff added, 1 to the foot area of the footbox and the rest spread evenly throughout. The customer service was first class and Harry was exteamly helpful in helping me design a quilt that would fit me perfectly. And it does. The craftsmanship is next level, not one loose thread or bad a stitch anywhere. I asked for a 2 week deadline so I could take it on a trip with me and they made sure I got it with plenty of time to spare. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this quilt and so far its preformed amazingly at temps from 48° down to 25°. I'm confident it will meet if not exceed its 0° rating . I'm so happy with HG's craftsmanship, I'm about to order a 0° Incubator from Dutch since it'll match the Burrow and is ready to ship. Thank you HG, your quilts and customer service have set the bar high and I'll be a customer for years to come!!!!

  • Quality gear

    by Unknown – 22nd Oct 2016

The Borrow is the perfect companion for my Phoenix. I used this quilt on a chilly and very windy night. I was amazed at the warmth it provided. Due to the high winds I didn't sleep that night but I was warm.
The wind did blow the heat away from my HG under quilt at times but things quickly warmed back up. There's no avoiding that in winds that strong . The Borrow and Phoenix were perfect . I'm eager to try them together in colder temperatures. I'm extremely happy with my HG gear .

  • light weight, packable, and great service

    by MVP – 29th Sep 2016

I bought mine 2 weeks before a last minute trip to rocky Mt National park above the tree line (I was ground sleeping.) late sept 2016, Temps were in the high 30's and low 40's at night. I bought the wide, regular, with snaps normal fill. I'm 5-10 200lbs and it worked for me but I would probably prefer a long just for the extra snuggling in cold temps but it still worked great. I did wear exped down booties at night so the hole in the foot bed due to snaps were a non issue. Either way I stayed perfectly warm but was never sweeting. I will buy a warm weather quilt for my summer trips coming up soon from HG... Only critsism would be the placement of the draw cord around shoulders... It was right in the center without a pouch to stash it in so the cord would occasionally hit me in the face... a little annoying but not worth taking a star off for.

THANKS HG FOR A GREAT PRODUCT AND SUPPORT!

  • as always- i love my hammock gear stuff

    by anne – 1st Sep 2016

It's fluffy and allows me to sleep in positions unthinkable in a mummy bag! Yes, a groundsleeper like me loves these quilts. I sleep very cold so I still have to wear my down pants to get all the way to the temperature rating, but that's just a wuss like me. Durable and flexible in how it's used- I love my burrow quilts!

  • beautiful, quality quilt

    by Amy – 22nd Jul 2016

Excellent customer support. Friendly and quick responses to my questions. Fast shipping and a beautiful, quality sleeping quilt. So pleased.

  • Solid quilt and customer service

    by Latimer – 20th Jul 2016

An experience thru-hiking friend recommended I purchase a down quilt rather than a sleeping bag, and after a long internet search, I picked this one. I have not used it in the backcountry yet, only for car camping, but it is quite warm, light, and compressible. A quilt is definitely the way to go; as much or as little ventilation as you need. I opted for the snaps and drawstrings; what an awesome touch.

Also I need to mention that this company responds to emails quickly and professionally. I would recommend a down quilt, and I would recommend it be from this company.

  • Great Quality Quilt!

    by Chad – 28th Jun 2016

I ordered this quilt and got it with 2oz stuff down. I ordered it for a grand canyon trip and it compacts well. A little bit bigger then I thought when in a stuff sack but for that much down I should have expected that.

It also kept me warm on a mid 60s day; I have yet to push this to the limit in the cold but the quality of feel appear very superb right out of the box. I would highly recommend the investment!

  • Another quality quilt

    by Bodge81 – 24th Jun 2016

This is my third HG quilt purchase (20 degree burrow and 20 degree phoenix previously purchased). All these quilts are of the highest quality and workmanship. I'm impressed with their warmth to weight ration and their affordability. I'm always impressed with the HG customer service and timeliness. I haven't used this quilt yet (I bought it specifically for a July/August thru hike of the JMT) but I'm sure it will keep me nice and toasty! Thanks, Adam and Co for another quality piece of gear.

  • everything you need!

by Adventure bisket. (Nick Kunstler) – 20th Jun 2016

WOW, I can't say enough about my quilt. Between the craftsmanship, and quality materials that are out into these amazing pieces of gear. It doesn't get much better than this. I just got back from a 3night trip within the Jefferson wilderness (Mt. Jefferson, Oregon cascades). Most of which I was hammocking over packed snow. With overnight lows well into the low 20's. I found myself a little to warm. Paired this top quilt with my Incubator 0. I got earlier. I had to kick it off me a few times because i was starting to sweat. These things perform great! And the customer service is the best I've came across. Hammock gear has made eye a customer for life.

  • Nothing but the HIGHEST QUALITY

    by Coasterbrookie – 13th Jun 2016

Absolutely the finest quality materials and workmanship around. I now own two Phoenix under- quilts (20 and 40 degree) and two Burrow top- quilts ( 0 and 40 degree). All of them are impeccably sewn, beautifully assembled and filled perfectly with just the right amount of Down to stay lofted and keep me comfortable through the three seasons that I typically hang in. My next purchases will be overfilled Top and Bottom quilts with custom features added to ensure the frigid cold weather doesn't work it's way in to my inner soul! Do not worry about ordering a product from HG. It's not an inexpensive venture (to be sure) but if you want a reliably, hand-crafted set-up, you've come to the best place. I understand the concerns about ordering-without-seeing but this company will certainly deliver a product that surpasses your expectations... every time! Take it from me. I'm in Minnesota and the weather can be downright UGLY up here. Poor quality gear can mean more than simply a distressing time. In some instances, it can be the difference between life and death!

  • Excellent Product

    by Unknown – 30th Apr 2016

I went with the Burrow Zero instead of the Burrow 20, for an extra $30 and a few more ounces, it seemed like the better choice. I went with the sewn in foot box, because I don't like to sleep with my socks on. The Burrow is very good quality, packs small, yet maintains unbelievable loft when used. My first night in my hammock using my Burrow and a poncho liner for an under quilt, it got down to 34 degrees, and I stayed warm and comfortable all night. Using a true under quilt, I'm sure my Zero would keep me comfortable in the teens. Overall, your decision comes down to cost, weight and pack size. If price isn't a concern, and pack weight/size is a concern, go with a Burrow.

  • Never going back to a sleeping bag

    by Devan – 25th Apr 2016

First of all, I want to thank the folks at Hammock Gear for the quick response time and incredibly fast shipping time. I had my mind set on a quilt from a competitor before even hearing about Hammock Gear. A friend suggested that I give them a look for before purchasing and I'm very glad that I did.

I had a backpacking trip planned that was quickly approaching and I needed something warm, but was going to resort to borrowing from friends since the competitors product that I was looking at had a delivery time was well beyond my trip date. After reading the reviews on the Hammock Gear website and deciding that the Burrow was a better value, I sent a note to customer service to inquire about the shipping time. To my surprise, they assured me that they could get the quilt to me on time for my trip. In fact, they had it to me a few days before I left, which was unreal!

I decided on the Burro 0 because of the warmth to weight ratio. I'm 6'1" and went with the long and wide version since I am not a huge fan of mummy bags and wanted the extra space for slide sleeping and adding layers when necessary. I chose interior and exterior colors that had the 15 denier nylon since the quilt is already incredibly light and I wanted something that would stand up to abuse. Without having a 10 denier to compare it to, I can say that the fabric is very comfortable and the quality is top notch.

When I first opened the package, I was a little disappointed in the size of the stuffed quilt. However, it is not the fault of the quilt itself but rather a stuff sack that is neither a good stuff sack or a good storage sack. However, I think this is pretty common and the ONLY complaint I have thus far. I purchased a Sea to Summit eVent Compression Dry Sack in size Small, which holds the quilt and my ultralight pillow and compresses them both down to about 14" x 7". Awesome! The directions that came with the quilt suggested a pillow case for storage, which is what I am using until I find something more suitable.

My first night in the wilderness with the quilt dipped down to about 28F. I was a little chilly that night but the fault was my own. Having never used a quilt before, I wasn't sure how to use it properly. I just threw it down on top of my sleeping pad and called it a night. That was a mistake! The quilt comes with attachment cord loops on the back and they are there for a reason. The next morning I used about 8ft of paracord and laced it through the loops, leaving enough on the top end to use as a draw string to cinch it down around my sleeping pad. That made all the difference the next night! I was toasty warm all night long. I went with the snap foot box so that I had the option of using it as blanket and allowing more air in for use in warmer weather. I was initially worried that this would allow cold air to sneak in on colder nights, but that was not the case. My feet were very warm with, or without, socks and the snaps make this quilt so much more versatile than a sleeping bag, or a quilt with a sewn foot box.

Overall, with all the features that are packed into this quilt and the fact that I can be comfortable in the backcountry with something that is as small and light as this, I am incredibly satisfied with this product and highly recommend it. I can't imagine ever going back to a sleeping bag or buying a quilt from any other company!

  • Finally Warm

    by Unknown – 24th Apr 2016

Rarely do reviews but felt the need to do one on the 0 burrow. Nervous about spending the money and still being cold, the burrow didn't disappoint. Brought an extra blanket as backup but didn't need it Haven't used below 20 but its nice not to having to carry extra insulation and not wearing multiple layers at night.

  • First time I have felt warm

    by Unknown – 24th Apr 2016

Typically a cold sleeper and struggled with cold feet. No issues now, haven't used below 20F yet but have been comfortable between 20-45. Liked the product so much I bought my wife a 0 burrow and a 0 incubator as well.

  • Fantastic Quilt

    by charliev – 21st Apr 2016

This quilt is very well made and very comfortable with incredible loft. I got the sewn foot box and they do a surperb job of finishing the box. This is my second burrow, first a 20 degree. I have used the 20 almost every night for two years. Still near perfect even after several washings. I am positive the 0 will last as well. HG has fantastic customer service and they promply reply to each and every communication.

  • Best I own

by Big B. aka. Soggy Bottom – 21st Apr 2016

I own a few other brands of quilt at this same temperature rating. This is by far the best I own. More loft than JRB. I love the snaps at the footbox over Velcro. They are more positive and keep together through the night. The snap and shock cord at the head end are genius. They not only keep the quilt up and on top of you but it also aids in the quilt staying closer to your sides for superior warmth. I got the Blue outside with the orange inner and it looks amazing. I love this quilt!

Customer service is outstanding. I couldn't find a lead time on the website when I placed my order. I had an upcoming trip and wondered if it was going to make it to my door in time. They asked when my trip was and told me they would make sure I got it in time.

  • The right quilt for the job

    by Jillidy – 6th Apr 2016

I purchased my burrow 0 with 4 oz overfill and a sewn footbox for a 300 mile passage hike of the Arizona Trail in April 2016. I like to be toasty when sleeping and this bag performed great. We had several hard frosts during the trip and I was insulated so well that I only noticed it when I woke up in the morning.
My only mistake in ordering was that the standard length was about 2-3 inches too short for me (5'6") to pull over my head and be fully extended.

  • my portable heater

    by KayakTripper – 11th Mar 2016

This top quilt is great! I ordered the long with 4 oz over stuff and snap foot box. From all of my winter testing i was able to get down to 0 degrees, with only fleece pants, lightweight fleece pullover, synthetic socks, fleece hat & balacava. Money well spent, just wish it would have gotten cold this winter, maybe next year. Oh and my 0 degree night was with out a tarp. The quality is outstanding, the service impeccable, and the shipping fast. Thanks Hammock Gear

  • great quality quick shipping

    by ErikG – 6th Mar 2016

I placed a fairly large order and was quite nervous. I spent my entire 2 years backpacking gear budget in 2 places with the majority at HG
the products arrived packed well and upon close inspection all 4 quilts were great. I couldn't find any imperfections.
Only been able to test it in 20F with high winds and was very warm.

  • Great quality and customer service!

    by Lisa – 29th Feb 2016

I purchased 2 Burrow 0 bags. I emailed Hammock Gear ahead of time, as I needed the bags for a trip in 2 weeks. Harry responded quickly to my email and said it was no problem. The bags were delivered in plenty of time. We used the bags in a single wall TarpTent on NeoAir mattresses. The temps were in the 30s at night. The wind picked up overnight and blew into the foot of the tent. I could feel the cool air through the cinched hole in the foot box, but was able to curl my feet so the hole was against the NeoAir, solving that issue. We both tend to sleep very cold and slept in beanies, wool blend shirts, and long johns. We were both comfortable at 30 degrees, but felt that at 0 degrees, we would probably be chilled. We didn't utilize the hooks to secure the bag to the mattress, as it wasn't necessary at this temperature. At 5'8", the regular bag was plenty long and at 5'3", the short bag was plenty long. We both ordered the wide version and felt there was plenty of room to sprawl and toss and turn. The quality of the bags is superb. They are very lightweight and scrunch down to nothing. We don't intend to sleep in temps below 30 degrees, but knowing how cold we tend to sleep, ordered these for good measure. We are extremely happy with these bags and highly recommend them.

  • buy once.. cry once

    by mike – 22nd Feb 2016

Worth every penny! My first winter camp we got a foot of snow and the temp went down to -15 I used this with a 20 degree bag and I slept like a baby. Outstanding products and customer service. Everyone I know that winter camps has one of these.

  • Confidence builder for my wife

    by Karl – 10th Feb 2016

I bought two incubator O and Burrow Os for me and my wife, who is from Philippines and can't stand even the thought of being cold. These worked very well at 20F. She was alarmed that I would sleep just in T shirt and briefs but I was fine. She did well. although dressed in long thermal underwear plus ski pants and jacket on the first night. She no longer wears the jacket and pants.
.Finally bought a third set for our daughter. Was tempted to buy only 20 degree F OQ/UQ instead of the 0 F degree because I figured that I would never need to go below 20F , but since we did so well with these, feel that even zero degrees is doable with these and thus expands our camping temperature parameters, Because they are so light, do not feel the weight penalty for the extra 20-30 degrees of protection justifies a second lighter set for above freezing temps.
This might change if I need to go ultralight, like a thru hike on the Appalachian Trail, but even then I would do a very careful analysis of the weight penalty, as I think it is that small.

When not in use, I store these individually in Eberlestock duffle Bags so as not to compress the down.

got my 0 burrow short with 3 extra ounces of down, its like it was tailor made for me , fantastic WOOOHOO!~

  • very warm

    by Steve – 19th Jan 2016

I purchased the 0 degree burrow and incubator both with 4oz of overfill which, going by the stuffing on the various quilts, should bring the rating down to about -10 degrees. I tested them last night at +10 degrees F and was just hot enough to worry about sweating. I was dressed only in a medium weight wool baselayer and winter wool socks. No pants, shirt, sweater, etc. Only a fleece balaclava and knit cap for my head. I am considerable cooler in my bed under a blanket with the house thermostat set at 71 degrees.

I am very satisfied with the quality. All the material and stitching looks great.

  • Toasty!

    by Clockw3rk – 9th Jan 2016

Amazingly well made super fluffy down quilt. Should work great fighting off the chill here in Maine. Outstanding. Keep up the good work!

  • Outstanding Top Quilt

    by Tony Robbins – 3rd Jan 2016

Since first using a hammock last February, I only used a 32 degree down sleeping bag. Though I have been out in temps as low as 15 degrees, it performed good. In the hunt for something lighter, and warmer, I decided on the Burrow 0. I thoroughly like the snap and draw cord at the head end. This allows you to adjust heat retention on warmer nights. I opted for the snaps on the foot box rather than a zipper because it is the lighter option. Also, a zipper could possibly tear your hammock since it is under your legs.

  • Love it

  • In a few words, please title your review

    by frank – 13th Nov 2015

this is the first quilt I've ordered from Hammock Gear, but it won't be the last! This thing is great! Used it last weekend when the temps dropped down onto the low 20's, and it performed well. I wasn't the least bit cold. I'm a tosser and turner when i sleep so i went with the largest quilt i could. The attachment points are a nice touch even though they don't work with my style hammock(Amok), but some light shock cord and a few mitten hooks really help keep it tucked in around you. I plan on pushing the limits of this quilt, and i don't doubt it's ability to perform at or below it's 0* rating. Keep up the good work, and I'll be back in the spring for a lighter quilt as well.

  • Beyond Warm

    by bigfoot – 12th Nov 2015

This was my third quilt from hammockgear.com and my first cold weather quilt. I have tried a few different ones from various other companies and hammockgear was were i decided that i wanted to purchase my first cold weather quilt from.

I put my order in for a 0 degree with 2 ounces of overstuff and was told that it would be ready in a couple of weeks. Well a few days after a friend asked if i wanted to do some hiking and i said sure. So i checked the weather and it was gonna get down to 30 for the evening. So i called up hammockgear and asked if they could speed up the process for me and they said sure. So i got it 3 days before the trip and tried it out that night. Man it was so warm i couldn't believe it and it was light. So thanks hammockgear for the best darn quilt out there.

  • upper quilt.

    by Evan. – 13th Oct 2015

I ordered the O degree upper and under quilt. I've used it twice. Though it has not been to cold yet in my area, I was extremely warm and very comfortable. I can't wait for it to get really cold to try it out. I have ordered a under quilt from a different company which it works. But the quality doesn't even come close. Of all my hiking gadgets. This is by far my favorite. Thanks for producing a great product. I glad to see a company take great care and pride in the product they make.

Currently laying in my hammock with my Burrow 0 degree at 30 degrees. Not a cold spot anywhere..Once again another great product. Paired with my incubator I'm ready for winter

  • Great product

    by Jeff Morrow – 17th Sep 2015

Hey, all This is a great bag for the price I like that you can custom pretty much everything....The only reason its not getting a 5 star is because of how the bag smelled when I got it. I washed and it sill smelled very strong. Not sure what the smell is... I hung it up and let it get lots of air and that seemed to help. I bought it to go hunting with and the smell that it has in just so very strong ...The only reason I didn't give it 3 stars was because of the quality of the bag...

  • Love my HG quilts

    by Christine – 29th Aug 2015

I bought a 0 degree top and bottom quilt from HG. They weren't cheap but I have no regrets. Excellent customer service, timely shipping and quilts that keep me warm and make me proud of my gear. I'm the type that buys once, takes care of my gear and has it forever. I am confident that this will be the case with my quilts. FYI - they pack down nice and small, shake out quickly and are suprisingly flexible when it comes to sleeping in various temps.

  • Lightweight top quality topquilt

by Tony from Syracuse – 24th Aug 2015

The shipping was very fast. I removed the Burrow 0° from the shipping box and was amazed at how light the quilt was. Didn't really get a chance to test it down to zero yet but given the fact that it puffed up very nicely after unboxing it im sure it will have no problem. Put it next to my eno 40° topquilt and it puffed up much larger but stuffed down to similar size. Can't wait to put it to the test in the Adirondack region this winter. I'm sure several of my scouts will be coveting it.
Not sure if I want to buy a underquilt 0° to match as I'm currently using a Clark nx150 with insulation pockets installed. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Maybe go with 0° bottom quilt and remove insulation from pockets if lighter , smaller or go with 20° underquilt and keep islulation in pockets. Basically looking to keep weight and size down but want to be comfortable down to 0° ish or below.

  • Nice lightweight gear

    by JL Robitaille – 31st Jul 2015

Just received my Burrow 0 quilt. Ordering process went very well, and shipping was quick. The quilt feels super light. The fabric is a bit thinner than I thought, so I'll need to be careful when using it.

One thing that I didn't expect, is that after I pulled it out of it's stuff sack (it was in the sack for about a week during shipping) it took about 2 full days for the down to expend all the way and actually fill the baffles. I don't know if it's normal that it takes that long. And even after that, when I look closely at the baffles, holding the quilt above me, under a light, I can still see free air space in the baffles that is not filled with down, and I did add 2 oz of overfill. Once again, I don't know if this is normal. I am more used to synthetic insulation.

The stuff sack is nice, and sized properly. I wonder how water resistant it is though.

Sadly it is the summer now, so I can't really test it, but it looks like it will be really warm. Can't wait for winter!

There just can't be anything better than the gear that Adam, Harry and the Hammock Gear gang produce for us all. Having custom locally made, high quality , outdoor gear built by knowledgeable folks that genuinely want you and I to have a great experience on our backwoods trips is great.
This was my second zero degree burrow top quilt and I ordered a long, wide version with a burnt orange argon 90 exterior, and cinnamon brown argon 67 interior. It was incredibly well made, warm and is lightweight.
Beyond using the Burrows on every hammock backpacking or tent camping trip we take (we just returned from 2 weeks hiking/ tent camping in the Alaska Kenai penninsula) my wife and I also use the burrows at home almost daily just an easy light warm personal quilt...perfect for our 125 year old farm house. So the investment in the burrows has been well justified for their practical everyday use as well as on our adventures. My first burrow was argon 67 fabric both inside and out and I actually prefer that over the argon 90 outside because the whole quilt just feels incredibly soft and comfy in a hammock or anywhere...but the burnt orange exterior color we wanted on the new burrow wasn't available in argon 67...so our choice. When I order a piece of quality gear like this that I plan to use regularly for many years, I'm very particular and Adam and Harry are very responsive and willing to make any adjustment necessary to ensure your new hammock gear product is exactly how you want it. Thank you guys for giving my wife and I such comfortable nights in the backwoods all over this country for years now! We really appreciate you.

  • Too warm?

    by Sean – 2nd Jul 2015

I have a 0 degree sleeping bag that was my usual all around bag. Even on warm summer nights I'd take it out and be comfortable. Got the Burrow 0 to be my new all around bag and to cut down weight and bulk. Just got back from Yosemite where it was in the upper 40's at night. I was uncomfortably hot. Go figure, right. This is not a complaint obviously. Just guidance for others that this is one hot bag. Now I need to get another for these warm summer nights.

  • Awesome

    by S. Jackson – 19th May 2015

My husband and I got us each one. They are awesome and lightweight. So glad we gave them a try.

  • So good!

    by Carla – 18th May 2015

Got a Burrow 0 for this summer's JMT hike but have been testing it out before taking it along. So far, so great! The quilt is really well made, super warm and incredibly lightweight. I am a cold, side sleeper and this bag allows for me to roll around and keeps me plenty warm. I agonized over sleeping bags/quilts for months, looking at pretty much every manufacturer. I am glad I went the Burrow.

  • Best Down Product

    by Bike-N-Hike – 26th Mar 2015

Purchased, Burrow 0dF +2 oz, compared to my old bag this thing is so light. Tested in 15dF and had to vent I was so hot. I really want to test it at zero but I'll have to wait until next winter for those temps. The woodland camouflage print looks great. I'm going to get a 40dF one as soon as my next tax refund comes in. I highly recommend this quilt.

  • The TQ performed like a Champ!!!

    by P. Williams – 24th Mar 2015

I finally got a chance to get out in the backcountry for a couple of nights. The temperature only got down to the mid 20's, but with very high winds. My new 0* burrow performed like a champ, because I was actually hot. I have complete faith in HG that I'd be toasty at any temperature.

  • Warm at -15°F

    by Unknown – 14th Feb 2015

I purchased this in extra long as wide as im 6'2" and 275lbs, im a large person. I got it in woodland camo and it looks great. The quality and craftsmanship is awesome. It has a 3oz overstuff as well. Adam was very helpful throughout the ordering process. Im using it tonight and its kept me warm at -15°F with windchill. Id recommend highly.

  • Warm Warm and Warm

    by phoenixcustoms – 12th Feb 2015

Impressed with the craftsmanship and turn around time. The sewn foot box is the way to go on a 0 degree. Love it!

  • The Burrow is Vetted.

by Jason (MAPS) Lopez – 3rd Feb 2015

Tested in back yard 3 times. 4 oz overstuffed. Running Incubator 0 deg F, standard fill. Outdoor/Indoor temp gauge used to measure weather conditions. Indoor gauge in chest pocket. Outside gauge clipped to edge of tarp. All temps reported are max values. My biology runs hot during rest. I eat a decent size meal before getting some rack.

1st night: 31 deg F outside, Freezing rain. Too hot inside quilt (not a complaint). Had to open up neck snap. Excellent night’s sleep.
2nd night: -11 deg F outside. 90 deg F inside. Windy. Feet a tad cold. Reinforced feet with 3 sections of z-lite. Foot box warmed right up. Very comfortable night’s sleep. Seeing is believing!
3rd night: 4 deg F outside. 91 deg inside. Slept outside just for the fun of it.

Customer service note: The Hammock Gear team has always been kind and accommodating to me. I've ordered several pieces of equipment from HG for me and my Wife and I continue to be surprised by their awesomeness. Thanks HG, you guys are the best!

  • Awesome piece of gear

    by JoshuaTrees – 9th Jan 2015

I got Argon 90 Orange inside with Woodland Camo outside. Wide with Sewn foot box and 2 oz over-stuff. I LOVE the look and feel of the Argon 90. This quilt should be nice and toasty for a long time.

  • the Burrow is the best.

    by Rick Jordan – 6th Jan 2015

I bought the 0 degree and love it. Workmanship is perfect and the warmth to weight ratio is amazing.
The HG folks are a pleasure to deal with and they always "deliver the goods". I'm very happy with my purchase.

  • LOVE IT!!!

    by Mike Taylor – 17th Dec 2014

Thank you TONS for making such a great Topquilt. I went hammocking this past weekend.. the wind kicked up and though the temp dropped to 28.. the windchill off the lake was way lower. But there I was.. snug as a bug - toasy warm in my Burrow 0. I'm heading out again in January to give it another run! I'm glad i bought a sewn closed foot box.. didn't have to deal with any snaps or draw strings.. just put my toes down in there and let them relax all roasty toasty.
    Hooyah!

  • Like Sleeping on a Cloud.

    by StoryTellerTN ( Douglas) – 15th Aug 2014

While I have not exactly tried my 0° Burrow, I do in fact own a 30° Burrow, which has seen many nights in the outdoors. In fact, this quilt was used just this past night and performed flawlessly in the colder temperatures. The new argon fabric, which Adam and his team are using is plush and extremely comfortable. When I nestle in to this under
quilt for the night, it's like wrapping myself in a cloud.
Not only are HammmockGear quilts extremely comfortable, they are well engineered, and made to withstand the elements and outdoors. I have used HammockGear under quilts in all sorts of temperatures, humidity, and extreme weather conditions without an issue.
Another note I would like to point out, if you are a gram weenie, like myself, HamimockGear quilts are among the lightest and most well made quilts found anywhere on the market. Trust me, as a research major I have done my homework on this. I promise, if you purchased one of these quilts, you will not be disappointed. Thank you HammockGear.

  • Fabulous!

Great quilt, feels fantastic and love the colors! Very well made and lightweight! Great customer service and communication.

  • Great product and stellar customer service

    by Cameron McAlpine – 24th Jul 2014

After having problems sleeping too cold in the 20 degree burrow on the PCT this year, I called Adam to see about getting some more down added to the bag. He was amazingly responsive and generous enough to send out a new zero degree quilt.
This level of customer service goes above and beyond and has earned a customer for life.

The quilt is very warm, lofty and everything one could want in such a lightweight package. I look forward to taking it on the CDT next year!

  • fantastic and light kit

    by David Thompson – 15th Apr 2014

I got this a bit overstuffed as I do a lot of deep winter camping. I had been using a 15 degree mountain hardware sleeping bag which weighed 3.5lbs. This thing can probably get me to -5 comfortably and weighs right at 1 pound - that is HUGE!!!

Also, Adam did a rush job for me and got this thing shipped in time for a big trip I had planned, but had done a poor job of planning for new gear! Huge thanks to the folks at HG for taking the extra effort for customer satisfaction - one of the best cottage industry shops I've ever dealt with.

  • Best Hammock products hands down!

    by Aframe – 5th Mar 2014

Hours and hours, I researched the internet and hammock forums reading and reading, reviews and opinions. I have looked at more product reviews than I care to recount. Adam makes the best hammock gear around, truly. I still have a few frieds that tent camp and are always asking to try out my hammock. Everyone is surprised at how warm it is. Slowly but surely I am converting everyone I know to hammockers. Go with these products you cant go wrong. Honestly.

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!

by Steve Bode, Newnan GA – 7th Feb 2014

I have spent 4 nights in my 0 degree burrow so far, coldest night being 24 degrees. The burrow is really light weight, super warm, and due to some sort of anti gravity technology hammock gear isn't ready to talk about yet-it kind of floats on top of you! (its like wrapping a cloud around you!) The new argon fabric is really soft and comfortable , and it seem s to me that the new coated down is even warmer than regular untreated down! In summary, I love this thing! (all things considered, its a really good value-you're getting a super high quality quilt for a very reasonable price!) I definitely made the right choice with the 0 degree burrow!

  • Burrow 0 degree

    by PHD – 29th Dec 2013

This makes the 3rd quilt I've ordered from Hammock Gear and I am extremely happy with all. This time the OQ was for my 91 year old mother who cannot get warm. Thanksgiving weekend I covered her with my HG quilt ( OQ & UQ always travel with me. She slept under it and covered herself with it while sitting and kept saying "It's so toasty, it's so warm, I am lovely and warm" and then requested one for Christmas. All her grandchildren jumped on the opportunity to give her something she really wanted and I ordered it Thanksgiving weekend. We received it well before Christmas and Mom and has used it nightly since then and is THRILLED with it. Not the normal usage I know, but she is another very happy, toasty warm, customer.

  • Outstanding quality and workmanship!!! Worth the dollars for sure.

    by Jay Collins-12/12/2013 – 12th Dec 2013

My new Borrow 0 is very very warm and super light in weight. There isn't a thread out of place and the snaps are very strong and well placed. I laid down on the floor and covered myself with it when it was delivered and I felt the heat immediately. Adam answered all my questions on the phone prior to the order; the Borrow o can within the next 3 days! His attention to customer satisfaction and delivery is outstanding.

  • Maiden tonight at Est. 27 degrees

    by TheStinkyWeasel – 5th Dec 2013

Ordered a 0 degree Burrow and Underquilt together over the Thanksgiving holiday, received as soon as one could expect with holiday shipping- NO IDEA where they found the time to make this kit. And beautiful, warm fluffy kit it is.
Going to be 27 tonight, should be no problem for this setup.
Very warm so far, a little more trial and error and I'm off to the mountains!

  • Absolutely love it!

    by Larry 'Geck0' Schild – 21st Nov 2013

What a fantastic piece of gear! The Argon fabric is so soft. I've only had it down to the 30s so far, but this weekend should get down to 13*F and I plan to be outside.

And the service was even better. After placing my order, I called Adam with questions and he really took care of my.

I wish they made down jackets. That'd be something. :-D

  • Zero degree Burrow is top notch

    by Henry Hibbs – 21st Nov 2013

Adam really helped me select the perfect Burrow top quilt for my situation. I selected the wider standard length zero degree top quilt with dry down fill with black exterior and brown interior. I took it on a 4 day backpacking trip in the southern Appalachians two days after I received it and it performed perfectly. It was a frosty 19 degrees at night and my 20 degree incubator under quilt held true to its specs as Adam promised it would. In my Blackbird hammock a lot of condensation collected on my top quilt, but the dry down really worked and loft was not effected at all. The argon fabric on the burrow TQ is very soft and it just floats over you like a warm cloud.I couldn't be happier with the quality of workmanship and personal service from Hammock Gear. Between backpacking trips, I often head for the treeline at the back of our farm with these quilts and my hammock for a Sunday afternoon nap. Thanks Adam!

  • Cold? What's that?

    by Paul Chance – 13th Nov 2013

I considered waiting until a Black Friday sale but I like to support quality home cottage products so I bought it early and have no regrets.

I own a 40 and 20 degree Burrow too, so 0 degree fills out the line. I've been using it outside on the porch for a few days to test my winter system. Note that the 0 degree Burrow's short length is longer than the other models. So there is plenty to snuggle into. It is an excellent product.

If I had to raise my eyebrow at anything, it did seem fitting it back in its stuff sack will be a little challenge, but I usually pack the TQ in a bigger bag (along with sleeping attire) anyway.

For those who might think the snap at the top to hold it around your shoulders is a bit of a gimmick - it is not. When required, does a great job of keeping the quilt in place.

  • Pleasantly Surprised

    by Jim Cocker – 26th Sep 2013

Was pleasantly surprised when the underquilt met all my expectations. Never using one before I was not quite sure what to expect. Fit around the hammock and my shoulders and the connecting hooks were easy to adjust and the rings in the middle top of the quilt made it possible to cinch around the middle. When using a sit pad for my feet it was long enough for my 6'2'
frame. Was impressed with the quality and the secure sewing in place. Used it in 45 degree weather and it was more then adequate for the temps. Packs small and is very lightweight.

  • another piece of art

    by dan brown – 13th Sep 2013

These guys never disappoint. Received it in a timely manner, promptly had any questions answered, and as usual you can't beat the quality of craftsmanship. Recently decided to go back to the ground and these quilts work just as well as 400$ sleeping bags for half the cost and a third less weight.

  • Worth the money vs the weight....

    by Unknown – 14th Aug 2013

Haven't used yet in the field but when opened the package was amazed at the quality..good design and seems to be warm but will give response later when using in temp range....seems delicate outer fabric but adds to weight reductuion...

  • Another Great Product

    by Steve (gnome77) – 14th Jul 2013

Once again Hammock Gear comes through. This is my third order from Adam and his crew, great service and great product. My girlfriend is now a hanger, we went out this last weekend to the High Country of Arizona, were it can get some adverse weather even in summer. This being her first time out in years I did not want to take chances she might be uncomfortable, so I turned to Adam for her gear. After speaking with Adam on the phone, he talked through what he could do and materials he could use, to fix us up with the best gear for us, great advise. Decided on the new Argon material, regular size and a 0* fill, my girl loved it, softer to the feel, she could not get over the quality of the top quilt, excellent as always. After ten hours of sleep the first night, chilly and Thunder Storms, she was content to lay in the hammock all comfey while i got coffee and breakfast together. Adam and his crew take the time to do the job right, the final products are top of the line and worth the wait and price. You could get the material and do it yourself, but you could not match the quality Adam achieves in every product. This Top Quilt preformed Great and will last for years of enjoyment , keeping us warm and comfortable. I have used the 0* Burrows standard fill down to 18* so far and have stayed toasty. As with all the products from Hammock gear worth the wait, money and weight in the pack. Gnome77

  • Tried it out and stayed nice and cozy

    by Raymond – 3rd May 2013

I got my quilts a few weeks ago and still had a chance to take it out into a -10 centigrade night here in Finland before the spring started. Combined with the 0F underquilt I was quite comfty in my TTM hammock in just a polo neck shirt, slacks & a hat to keep my head warm. Very easy to clip under the hammock and just jump in.

I only have two minor wishes for future product development:
    1) swap the plastic S-clips of the under quilt for proper aluminum ones and
    2) provide loose storage bags with these quilts since they are expensive enough to come with ones like all high-end down sleeping bags do.

Now I need to either store them in the compression bags or sow my own loose store bags to let the down 'rest' in between trips.

  • Just what I needed

    by Lilprincess – 21st Mar 2013

I called in skeptical about a top quilt being what I needed. I wanted a sleeping bag. Adam told me about the features I could get on the Burrow to make my hammock sleeping experience just right. I succumbed to his wisdom and I'm so glad I did! I'm 5"2' and the short version is perfect. Long enough to hide under the covers and shirt enough to still tuck under my chin.

Just what I needed. Thanks guys at HG!

  • How do you chose?

    by 4fingers – 27th Feb 2013

With soo many UQ vendors to review and all having a devoted following (HF) and a great product, my selection of a 0* TQ took plenty of forum reading, watching videos, and probably most of all visiting each comanies website. Price, customer service, and product quality told Hammock Gear sounded pretty good. 5 days after receiving my 0* Burrow and trying it out, Adam returned my call and answered a couple of questions for me and now a new 0* Incubator is on its way. I think I made the right choice.

  • I LOVE this topquilt!

    by Anita – 14th Feb 2013

I sleep outside in my hammock year-round because I get such a good night's sleep. In the past, I have had to pile on the blankets, but since I got my zero degree topquilt, it is the only cover I need. It is extremely lightweight, very well made, and I expect to use it for a long time. Well worth every penny.

  • Best quilt EVER!!!!

    by Jerzybears – 27th Jan 2013

Russ and I took our new 0 degree topquilts (sewn footbox 2 oz overstuff) to the 6th Annual NJ Winter Hang, The Saturday temp was 0. (No not the wnd chill...0 degrees!) The night before was 3. These quilts took the cold and kept us warm. We woke up covered in frost, but the down was not wet at all. Where many sleeping bags take their ratings with a lot of poetic licence, Hammock Gear is GOSPEL! " All God's children say, Amen." Thanks Adam and Jen for a teriffic product. - Peggy and Russ (Jerzybears)

  • Warm as a sparkplug in a Ferrari!

    by Callahan – 27th Jan 2013

This is an exceptionally well made quilt, some of the finest stitching I've seen! Very, very warm. As always, Hammock Gear's customer service was top shelf. They helped me through the decision making process for customizing my quilt to meet my needs, and I couldn't be happier with the results.
