About the Burrow 50˚
The Burrow works for both hammockers and ground-dwellers alike. It is a lightweight sleeping quilt that takes the insulation of a traditional sleeping bag and puts it all on the top and sides, leaving the back (which insulation is compressed and unusable anyway) open. Many hammockers use top quilts in lieu of a traditional sleeping bag because they are easier to slide into when it's time to sleep. The Burrow is designed with a straight taper, foot box and a cinched top. Comes complete with a stuff sack.
Our 50° Burrow is the ultimate in packability and warmth. Perfect for those cool summer evenings when your three season sleeping bag or top quilt is just too much. Conservatively rated and with sewn though baffle construction to keep it as light as possible, this lightweight quilt will keep you comfortable at 50 degrees. Available with a snap or sewn closed footbox option, 5 ounces of water resistant, 850 fill-power Goose Down, the Sewn-Through Burrow works well with those warm temperatures.
Top Quilt Advantages
Having found the Hammock Gear website, chances are you are aware of some of the advantages of top quilts. Their growing popularity, with both the hammock crowd and ground dwellers alike, is due to their function and versatility, especially as compared to traditional mummy-style sleeping bags. Some of these advantages include:
We utilize the finest 850 fill power, water-resistant goose down on the market in all of our quilts. It is tested and certified by the International Down and Feather Testing Laboratory.
All Hammock Gear quilts are made of ARGON fabric. All ARGON fabric is specifically designed ripstop nylon which is manufactured for Hammock Gear. We offer both 10 and 15 denier weights with certain colors only available in one or the other. ARGON 67 (10d) weighs 0.67oz/square yard while ARGON 90 (15d) weighs 0.90 oz/square yard. It has a Durable Water Resistant (DWR) finish. The DWR not only improves the water resistance of ARGON , it also enhances the fabric by improving overall strength, tightening the weave and thus increasing its down-proofness. Calendaring of the fabric further enhances the down-proofness of the quilt.
All of our quilts (except the Burrow 50) make use of baffle (also known as "box baffle") construction. This means that the seams between the down-filled chambers are not sewn through, but instead consist of a fabric wall about .75 to 3 inches tall, depending on the model. The Burrow 50, the lightest of our Top Quilts, uses sewn-through construction.
At Hammock Gear, we use temperature ratings which are very conservative. Compare them in the marketplace and you will agree. Here is a point we wish to emphasize: the first and most important step you must take when choosing a quilt by temperature is to Know Thyself. Are you a Cold sleeper, a Warm sleeper, or maybe a Really Warm sleeper? Factor this into your selection process and you will be much better off.
Two options are available: Sewn footbox or Snap Footbox. The sewn option is a permanent footbox approximately 20 inches long, measured from the bottom. A sewn footbox is fully enclosed/fully insulated, and thus allows no cold spots. It is recommended for 0° - 20° temps. The Snap version allows the quilt to be fully opened and to lie flat. 5 snaps are used. It is recommended for temps above 20°. When closed the snap version, which has a drawcord closure, has an opening of approximately one inch. Some users, depending on conditions/temps, will use a clothing item or small piece of foam pad to plug this hole. Many HG customers enjoy using their quilts in the home, and love the versatility of using the quilt “blanket style” or as a “throw”, and the snap version fits the bill.
Select your choice of exterior color from our current stock. The color of the interior fabric is your choice of black or charcoal gray.
Our top quilts are built with a standard Half-Taper design. Custom work is available if you have different requirements.
Quilts come standard with attachment cord loops (these can be omitted by request).

I ordered this Burrow 50* with 1 oz overstuff and a little over a week later, there it was on my doorstep! The usual excellent quality that I expect from HammockGear. I got this one with the .66 argon in cinnamon brown. Beautiful quilt and workmanship!! I had it out this past weekend and kept me toasty warm. Very light weight and packed down to almost nothing. Thanks Adam and Jen and all the employees at HG!!!

I purchased my Burrow 50 as my Birthday/Christmas gift from my parents. I know...my parents are awesome. And so is this quilt. Built with great construction. Simple and functional. I bought the quilt for my summer camping but used it as some extra insulation for some winter trips being it's so light and takes up virtually no space. Even mine, which is extra long and extra wide. I'm 6'6" and weigh 275 and it fit me perfect. I'll definitely be ordering an underquilt from Hammock Gear this fall.

I spent a lot of time in canyons and exploring the Grand Canyon below the rim - for me - minimal weight and bulk is critical - but so is exposure protection. It is always a balance. Prior to purchasing a Burrow 50, I used a GoLite product - it was much heavier and bulkier and took up too much room in my pack. I approached Adam and ran my requirements by him - we decided on the Burrow 50 and it does not disappoint. It is much lighter and takes up 1/2 the space - exactly what I had hoped for. This is about as high tech an item you can buy, I have used it in temps to about 40 and have been very warm in it, and it greatly simplifies (and lightens) my sleeping setup. Thanks !

I've been using my Burrow 50 since early 2014 in temperatures down as low as 30°F and I can say it's done it's job every time! Granted I've had to have a few extra layers on when it's really cold and I'm a warm sleeper... but even so, it's been amazing!
I also really appreciate the quality of the product. The whole thing is put together with the care I take on my own projects. I highly recommend the HG Burrow 50!

Burrow 50: Outer ARGON 90 Woodland Camo, Inner ARGON 67 Black, Standard Length, Wide 55" Footbox Snaps, Overfill 2 ounce.
This is my second purchase, haven't used it outdoors yet, the attention to detail, quality of components and craftsmanship are easy to see.
Since this purchase I have also purchased a 20F Phoenix UQ
I highly recommend Hammock Gear.

I purchased the Burrow 50 for summer hammock camping. I initially wanted the wide model in case of any ground sleeping but after talking with Adam on the phone, I was convinced the standard width was enough for me (6' 180lb).
I've used this quilt a few times and the one thing I've noticed was it seemed a little narrow. After getting home, I measured the width at a little over 47". I'm not sure how different 3" will feel but I could tell it was lifting when I went fetal in my hammock.
Otherwise, the lowest temp I took it was to around 55 def F and pouring rain. I stayed just warm enough only wearing shorts and a tee and I'm a cold sleeper. Note that I had a Phoenix 40 under me. The only time I felt chills were when I could tell the sides lifted a bit.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a summer quilt and possibly early fall/late spring. The snap foot box is very useful. Personally, I should have gotten overstuff (or a Burrow 40) since I will be pushing the limits of this quilt. Additionally, the quality of materials and a severe light weight of the quilt make it a winner.

With my intentions to use this as my summer, lightweight, compact, and comfortable cover for hammock backpacking, it has been great. I need light and compact, but don't need to be too primitive to give up comfort. I recently spent several days hiking and I am pleased. The Burrow 50 is well-made and the perfect companion to my Incubator for summer use in the Southeast. I've yet to test at lower temperatures, so no comment.

Now that I've used both on AT section hikes, I can say performance has matched craftsmanship!
And Adam & Jenny provided excellent attention to my questions and needs.
Almost forgot, my relationship with Hammock Gear started with my HG Cuban Fiber Tarp with doors, and it exceeded expectations during AT and Pa. trips as well!

This is my quilt I use every night. I sleep in hammocks year round all night every night and I chose this quilt not only for its light weight, but also it's extreme warmth and ergo fit. I was using the 40 degree burrow here in Hawaii, but on most nights it was a little too warm. (My fault since I was using a 40 degree In 60-70+ degree tropics)I eventually ordered the lighter 50 degree burrow and I crossed my fingers hoping it would be warm enough. (I was skeptical of the "sewn thru" construction and wondered if it caused cold spots). I also get cold very easily at night, naturally. After testing it out mid winter on the coldest nights, I can honestly say it is very, very warm. I just ordered another for my partner and with it a 40 degree Phoenix UQ. These would be our 6th and 7th quilt from Adam at Hammock Gear. We are stoked that this company exists. I plan to order 20 degree quilts and a winter cuben camo tarp for my future PCT HIKE!

Just wanted to make another update to review in terms of the performance of this quilt. My wife and I went camping on a mountain top over the weekend off the Blue Ridge Parkway, nice place, high enough to be out of the trees and in the clouds. I wanted to see what my 50* burrow was capable of (i's overstuffed too) so I took it along with my torso length thermarest. The wind was blowing and the clouds were low so everything was cold and damp, except for me. This thing kept me plenty warm enough at night and I wasn't even wearing wool socks! Great product! I love this thing! It's making for a perfectly useable 3-season quilt here.

My wife and I just got two of these made with the new Arton fabric, and they're super light and toasty as can be! Perfect for the summer months, and I figure an ounce of overstuff will push these quilts down to some lower temperatures making them a great for three seasons in SC. Adam was fantastic and got our quilts to us in time for the trip with such short notice (less than a week)
Definitely recommending them to friends in search of high-quality gear.

Got my 50f TQ from hammock gear. Love it so soft to the skin, warm and packs very small! Excellent product, I would recommend it to anyone that's in need of a summer quilt. Thank you hammock gear! Satisfied customer, zac Schmidt

This is my 4th HG quilt and once again I am amazed by their product and service! The quilt is beautiful and is incredibly warm for it's size and weight. The temp rating appears to be dead on and it will serve me well for many years. I can not express my gratitude strongly enough for the great folks at Hammock Gear! I truly will NEVER buy a quilt elsewhere.

Excellent workmanship, great people to work with. Already gone to the woods where the temps were around 40 degrees and stayed toasty warm all night in my hammock. I am so glad I got both the incubator 40 degree and borrow 50 degree for my backpacking needs. Compresses really small and fluffs back up very quickly. Great for backpacking, I recommend these products and Adam's and Jenny's products to anyone.
