Frequently Asked Questions

Our Burrow Econ series utilizes durable 1.1 oz / yd² Calendered Nylon Taffeta fabric and 800 fill power DWR (Durable Water Resistant) Duck Down to achieve impeccable loft and weather resistance, while still remaining light and packable.  A great top quilt for hammock campers and ground sleepers alike, the Burrow Econ series will keep you warm while not breaking your bank account.

Current Lead Times

At the moment our lead time is approximately 4-5 weeks, from your purchase date, to ship out new made to order quilts.  Please plan accordingly, or visit our In Stock Page should you need something sooner.

About the Burrow Econ 30°

The Burrow Econ top quilt works well for ground sleepers (make sure you order the wide width) and hammock sleepers alike.  With a comfort rating of 30° you can rest assured that when those temperatures plummet, you will remain toasty warm.  Our top quilts feature a half taper design, which helps to make sure you have proper side coverage to your hips, while also saving a little bit of weight due to the tapered footbox.  We have two options for foot boxes, snap and sewn.  The snap footbox is more versatile, allowing you to unsnap and lay the quilt out flat.  The sewn footbox should be utilized if you only camp in cold weather, and don’t need to vent the top quilt.  Each top quilt comes standard with grosgrain loops along the sides of the quilt to allow ease of attaching our Ground Pad Attachment Kit, which comes in handy if you sleep on an insulated pad.

Compression / Pack Size

The Stuff Sack we ship with this quilt is approximately 5.5 liters in volume, but due to the nature of duck down, it can be compressed further with an aftermarket compression sack.  We do not recommend keeping the quilt compressed for more than 24 hours, and should be stored in the provided cotton storage bag, when not in use.

Down

We utilize the finest 800 fill power, water-resistant duck down on the market in our Econ Quilts. It is tested and certified by the International Down and Feather Testing Laboratory.

Fabric

All Hammock Gear Econ quilts are made of Ion fabric. All Ion fabric is specifically designed nylon taffeta which is manufactured for Hammock Gear. This material is a 20 Denier nylon taffeta with a DWR (durable water resistant) coating, which makes it great fabric for lightweight quilts. Weight is 1.1 oz / yd²

Baffles

All of our quilts (except the Burrow 50) make use of baffle (also known as "box baffle") construction. This means that the seams between the down-filled chambers are not sewn through, but instead consist of a fabric wall about .75 to 3 inches tall, depending on the model. The Burrow 50, the lightest of our Top Quilts, uses sewn-through construction.

Temperature Ratings

At Hammock Gear, we use temperature ratings which are very conservative. Compare them in the marketplace and you will agree. Here is a point we wish to emphasize: the first and most important step you must take when choosing a quilt by temperature is to Know Thyself. Are you a Cold sleeper, a Warm sleeper, or maybe a Really Warm sleeper? Factor this into your selection process and you will be much better off.

Footbox

Two options are available: Sewn footbox or Snap Footbox. The sewn option is a permanent footbox approximately 20 inches long, measured from the bottom. A sewn footbox is fully enclosed/fully insulated, and thus allows no cold spots. It is recommended for 0° - 20° temps. The Snap version allows the quilt to be fully opened and to lie flat. 5 snaps are used. It is recommended for temps above 20°. When closed the snap version, which has a drawcord closure, has an opening of approximately one inch. Some users, depending on conditions/temps, will use a clothing item or small piece of foam pad to plug this hole. Many HG customers enjoy using their quilts in the home, and love the versatility of using the quilt “blanket style” or as a “throw”, and the snap version fits the bill.

Colors

Select your choice of exterior color from our current stock. The color of the interior fabric is limited to Black Ion.

Taper

Our top quilts are built with a standard Half-Taper design.

Cord Loops

Quilts come standard with attachment cord loops (these can be omitted by request).

  • Exactly what I wanted!

by Nick, Sydney Australia – 4th Nov 2017

Buying online, it's rare to receive a product which is EXACTLY what it claims and what you wanted. The Burrow Econ 30 I recently bought is just that. Excellent quality, shipped precisely as I was informed - and just the practical design, lightness, comfort and warmth I'd hoped for. Wholeheartedly recommend this company and this product. Will definitely be back.

  • Kept me warm and CS was amazing

    by Nick P – 24th Oct 2017

My order was expedited and modified when I requested it, and they sped up production and shipping to help me out of a bind. The quilt was exactly what I was hoping for and I cannot recommend Hammock Gear highly enough.

Thanks to everyone who helped move my order up!

  • amazingly comfortable

by Dan from Buffalo – 5th Oct 2017

Thank you to everyone at Hammock Gear for making such a great product. This is just about the perfect quilt. Fabric feels really nice and this baby keeps you cozy and toasty. First night using it the temps dropped into the high 20s and I slept straight through the night without even a hint of a cold spot. Got mine with the snapped footbox and I love the versatility. Great product. About to put my order in for a zero degree set for the deep winter.

  • Amazed

    by Ron Hagen – 3rd Oct 2017

First of all the customer service was great!!! My quilt was expedited and a last minute change to the wide version was made as well. A+++++

When I first received the quilt I thought, "there is now way something this light will keep me warm." Skeptical was an understatement. I thought they'd sent me the 50 degree version by mistake.

Well....... last week I went camping in the Pecos Wilderness Area in New Mexico. One night it dropped to maybe 35 or 37 degrees. I was in my boxers, long sleeve t-shirt and thin wool socks. It was also torrential rain. I was amazed at how warm I was. Really, I could not believe it. My feet however did get a little cold but was remedied by stuffing my down jacket into the foot box. Keep in mind this is not the sewn foot box version. The fact that I was that warm and not wearing thermals makes me confident that I could go to 30 degrees easily. Thicker wool socks would have helped as well.

Im glad I got the wide version. I'm a side sleeper and vever at any point did you feel any draft.

I also slept in 60 degree temps. I opened up and used as a traditional quilt and was SUPER comfortable. Amazing range of use for this product.

    The only cons:

The plastic buttons at the foot box come undone pretty easily. Not a major flaw but definitely room for improvement there.

The slight wet dog smell it gives off. I know this is a trade off with buying the duck down vs goose down.

overall though, I highly recommend this product. Thinking about buying one for my daughter.

  • Trial by fire

    by David – 26th Sep 2017

My Econ 30 came in a few days before my trip out west (thank you for expediting my order to get the TQ to me, you're awesome. Customer Service, right?) . The temps dipped well into the 30's/upper 20's and I wasn't sure what to expect since I hadn't tested the quilt. I was warm, almost too warm at times. I cannot recommend HG enough. I bought the snap closure and really like the flexibility. Had I gone colder than the 30 I'd likely go for a sewn foot box.

  • Great product! Even better customer service.

    by Unknown – 11th Sep 2017

You guys made an amazing quilt and did it in a rush for me. I can't thank you enough. Thank you for making my trip that much more enjoyable and thank you for having an amazing staff!

  • So good

    by Eric Stanley – 7th Sep 2017

I'm new to using quilts and just took this one on an 11 day trip around Mt. Rainer. It is by far the best sleeping system I have ever used! light weight, warm, flexible. I'll never get a traditional sleeping bag again! Thanks!!!

  • You can't beat this

    by Twelve31 – 6th Sep 2017

I ordered a Burrow Econ 30 degree top quilt. I already own a UQ from HG. I don't thin you can beat this quality for this price. I've used it several nights and I couldn't be happier. I recently decided to ditch the sleeping bag for a lighter option and this is the first place I came looking. I had no idea they had the Econ line up but I took a shot because of my experience with HG before. Excellent work.

  • awesome service and product

    by Peter V – 22nd Aug 2017

I just switched to a quilt from a bag. The Econ 30 checked all the boxes for my summer needs. Great bang for the buck. The Econ is light and priced right. Tried it out this past week in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area in the north Washington cascades and it was plenty warm. The snaps and drawstrings made it easy to regulate my temperature. Best of all, I sent them a note that I was concerned the quilt might not make it to me in time for the trip and my order was prioritized and I received it in plenty of time. Thanks.

  • light

    by Ezra leylian – 17th Aug 2017

Just received the 4th hammock. So light, so well made. Harry is so great helping you with every need.

  • Exceeded expectations!

    by Bryan Berry – 17th Aug 2017

Having owned a handful of sleeping bags over the years I decided to try a quilt. Settled on the Econ given the price point and living in southeast figured 30 degree bag should serve me year round. I'm 5'10" and ordered the 55" width and regular length. I find it a perfect fit for a ground sleeper who tends to go from my back to side numerous times at night.

Used the quilt once already along Appalachian Trail in Grayson Highlands. Slept near Mt Rogers and temps dropped to high 40s. Slept in shorts, tshirt and socks. Stayed toasty so no doubt it will work at lower temps!

The construction, stitching, etc. is great. Did have one small issue with a snap not closing well along the footbox. Customer service was top notch tho providing a return mailing label and corrected the issue! Awesome!

Thanks hammock gear for providing a great product and excellent customer service!

  • Econ = Econotastic

    by Can't Talk – 14th Aug 2017

I'm not sure how this quilt qualifies as an "economy" item. The quality of this quilt is every bit as good as the standard Burrow's I own. Very accurately rated down to 30F. Excellent product, excellent customer service, excellent nights sleep. I've spent a good amount of money through Hammock Gear and I've never regretted one penny.

  • Top notch quality

    by Unknown – 2nd Aug 2017

Love my Econ 30 quilt!! Was able to test it and was sweating with just some shorts and tanktop in the high 30s. Very light and hackable. I would HIGHLY recommend the econ line to anybody like me who wants to make the jump to quilts but doesn't have very deep pockets.

  • Almost too warm

    by Dennis – 1st Aug 2017

I bought this for hiking part of the Colorado trail. I was amazed how light and small it packed. It was almost too warm since it rarely got into the 30s where I was hiking. I totally loved it.

  • Awesome quilt without the high price -

    by Tom – 31st Jul 2017

Very high quality quilt, i looked and researched many quilts before buying. Very happy with my Econ 30 -

  • Best company

    by Ezra – 22nd Jul 2017

You reached the best place to buy a quilt: best product, light and lowest price. In addition, you have Garry the most honest, helpful, generous and nice guy.
This product is made professionally, thought about all details and angels. The partitions are with a wall that will keep you warm. I bought 4 of them and I chose 4 colours so each family member will recognise his.

  • Works well for the ground too

    by Unknown – 28th Jun 2017

Just got back from a week long camping trip around Iceland. This was my first outing with the Burrow Econ 30 or with any quilt for that matter. I'm 6'1" 230lbs and ordered regular length/ wide width with a sewn footbox. Wide was recommended for tent use and I'm really glad I listened to that advice. I was able to tuck the sides under me on a particularly windy night to combat drafts, and it was long enough to duck my head in if I curled up a bit. The burrow Econ is a really well made product, I'm very happy with my purchase and looking forward to many more adventures with my HG quilts!

  • Excellent Quilt

    by Mark H – 21st Jun 2017

Let me start off first saying, this is not my first Hammock Gear quilt purchase. In the past year, I have bought 2 Econ Phoenix 20 degree underquilts, a Burrow 40 degree, a Burrow 20 degree, and Econ Burrow 30 degree (I had to outfit myself and my son). All the products I have purchase both on the Econ side and the regular are of great quality. The Burrow 30 is made of great materials, it packs down very compact and is pretty light-weight. I love the snap with the draw string to snug up the top around your chin to keep out any draft. I got the burrow in the Dark Olive color which looks great! All my top quilts have the sewn-in bottom which creates a very comfortable foot box. If you’re on the fence about this quilt, don’t be! It is a steal of a deal and a solid piece of equipment.

  • Great product

    by Dave J – 14th Jun 2017

Couldn't be happier with Econ Burrow 30. Excellent quality at an affordable price. I will be buying more HG products, highly recommend them.

  • Amazing quality and craftsmanship

    by Oliver W – 7th Jun 2017

I am blown away that this is an Econ line Quilt. From the beautiful storage bag to the little loop on the stuff sack that makes it easy to pull out the quilt. Everything is the quality craftsmanship that HG is known for and why I came to you to buy what keeps me warm in the woods. I have only had it down to 50 degrees but I can tell I would be warm below 30 degrees. What a great quilt!

  • Beautifully made, and toasty warm

    by RichieMac – 25th May 2017

First of all, Moroccan Blue is just beautiful. Had to be said.

Just spent my first night out in the woods with my new Econ Burrow 30 (and Econ Phoenix 30). Was expecting lows in the low 50s, but was colder than expected. When I checked my thermometer at 5:30 AM it showed about 42°. Not sure how cold it got. Was just wearing long underwear tops and bottoms, and wool socks. With the Burrow over me and the Phoenix under me I never felt cold at all. Just toasty warm. I had brought my hooded puffy jacket just in case, but never took it out of my pack.

HammockGear just gets it right. Nice quality stuffsack AND a big roomy storage bag. Love the snap footbox and snapping the collar and dropping it over my head. Maybe the best part is the nearly 3.5 lbs and a bunch of bulk I'm not carrying vs. the synthetic quilts I had that will now be loaners. Nah, the best part is how toasty warm I was all night.

  • Worked perfectly. Up to snuff! Considering buying another.

    by David B. – 22nd May 2017

Bought this quilt and a Phoenix 30 for my father. He was previously using a lot heavier and not warm-at-all uq/q combo. We immediately took it out to the State forest behind my residence and camped overnight. He loved them! He can't get over the quality of the build. The turn-time was as-expected and the build quality is prime. I had requested vertical baffles and they did it - no questions asked. The quilt and UQ lofted beautifully and not a shiver was to be had.

  • Econ Burrow 30

    by Andrew – 20th May 2017

I was interested in a Burrow 30 but when I saw the Econ Burrow 30 I had to jump at the chance, not only for the price but because of HG reputation. I used my Econ Burrow 30 and an Incubator Econ 30 on a low 30 degree night and I was warm from the time I got into the hammock until the morning when I got out. I could not be happier with my purchase. HG was very helpful with their customer service and I was very impressed with them. I would recommend this product to anyone who is into hammock camping. Thank you Hammock Gear!

Special shout out to Shug for introducing me to hammock gear!

    - Andrew (Minnesota)

  • Another great Hammock Gear prudict

    by JW – 16th May 2017

What else can i say. I own about a dozen or so top/under quilts and this is yet another great product. Great price and loft!!!

  • Great piece of equipment

    by Soldo – 15th May 2017

This quilt performed above and beyond expectations. Went up to the White Mountains in New Hampshire and the temperature dropped quite a bit lower than expected. I woke up to about 12 inches of snow and a temperature reading of 30 degrees F and I was very warm combined with the 30 degree phoenix under quilt. Great job to all at Hammock gear! I will be buying from these guys again!

  • Awesome Fabric, Incredible Price

    by Tyrell Wall – 10th May 2017

I purchased an Econ Burrow with a 30 degree rating. I'll be honest, if they were the same price as the traditional Burrow I'd still buy the Econ version and take the weight penalty because I love the feel of the fabric. Granted I haven't had the quilt long enough to test multiple weather conditions but so far it's fantastic. My last trip out had temps in the mid 40's and I was venting/sweating. Based on that I think the temperature rating is pretty conservative. I have full confidence I can take this quilt down to freezing temps without any issue. Great product, great price. I don't know how they are keeping up with demand.

  • What a Great TQ!!!

    by Wayne Corey – 2nd May 2017

This has got to be the best TQ for the money ever. I got the Burrow Econ 30. Camped out in low 40s and rain under a tarp and it did great. i am confident it will handle even colder weather. Great material. Professional workmanship. A fine high quality TQ at a low budget price. Thanks hammock Gear!

  • Great Spring/Fall TQ

    by Clay – 26th Apr 2017

Wonderful TQ that was very comfortable in it's first use into the low 40's...Would use even lower into the upper 30's if needed. Was paired with Econ 40 Incubator.

  • Price might be low but quality isn't

    by Ross Tapp – 25th Apr 2017

I couldn't resist, Burrow Econ 30, the price was just too good and will work great in the shoulder seasons when my Burrow 0 is just too much insulation., They certainly didn't lower their standards with the price, it's still the same great Hammock Gear quality found in all their products. I found the Ion 1.1 fabric soft on the skin and supple, after spending a night out in near freezing temps with no tarp and 20 mph gusts, it seemed to do an amazing job of blocking the wind. Extremely happy with my purchase and would recommend this quilt to all but those looking to shave grams, for them I would recommend that they pay the premium and opt for the regular Burrow with the Argon 67 fabric.

  • greatest bang for your buck

    by ground dweller – 22nd Apr 2017

This thing is awesome for the price. Build quality is phanominal, and backs down nicely with the included sack. I ordered the snap foot box , which makes this extremely versitil. I am 6' and weigh 250#, with broad shoulders. I went with the regular length, wide width and it fits perfectly .
