Incubator 20

Hammock Gear Under Quilts

Goose down under quilts have proven to be, without question, the preferred choice for insulating the underside of the hammock. Due to super light weight, compressibility and versatility, they outshine the alternatives by a landslide. Their thermal efficiency has allowed brave campers to push the boundaries of cold weather hammocking. Virtually every hammock camper has experienced - through his or her learning curve, the dreaded CBS, or "Cold Butt Syndrome". And virtually every owner of an under quilt has effectively learned how to avoid it. Once you have experienced a down under quilt, you will "never go back".

Hammock Gear provides a full-length under quilt - the Incubator, and a 3/4-length under quilt - the Phoenix. They are known by many to be the most effective on the market today. One of the primary reasons is this: the Incubator and Phoenix are the only commercial under quilts designed with a contour which mimics the shape a person makes when they are laying in a hammock. One of the added benefits of this construction technique is that it leaves a "flap" of fabric along the top and bottom of every down filled chamber. This extra fabric acts as a "floating baffle" which stabilizes the down and helps prevent its shifting. Another reason our UQ's are popular is this: they contain the ideal amount of down Stability - the down stays put when it should, but the design allows for enough manual shifting of down when necessary.

About the Incubator 20˚

The ULTIMATE underquilt for guaranteed comfort... The Standard length Incubator 20° is long enough to generously cover most hammock campers up to about 6’ 2”.  With 850 fill power, water resistant goose down, this underquilt will protect you in temperatures down to 20°. If you are looking for an underquilt that is hassle free and will allow you to enjoy your hammock for more months of the year, you have found it.

The Incubator comes with 9 anatomically contoured, differential cut baffles that run the length of the quilt. One of the things this construction technique does is to greatly reduce the shifting of goose down that is sometimes more noticeable in quilts made with premium goose down.  This is one of the reasons Hammock Gear quilts are always 15-20% overstuffed. The differential cut, contoured baffles also provide the highest level of fit which is critical to keeping warm.
The Incubator comes complete with our state of the art shock-cord suspension system and a stuff sack.

All Hammock Gear quilts are made of ARGON fabric. All ARGON fabric is specifically designed ripstop nylon which is manufactured for Hammock Gear. We offer both 10 and 15 denier weights with certain colors only available in one or the other. ARGON 67 (10d) weighs 0.67oz/square yard while ARGON 90 (15d) weighs 0.90 oz/square yard. It has a Durable Water Resistant (DWR) finish. The DWR not only improves the water resistance of ARGON , it also enhances the fabric by improving overall strength, tightening the weave and thus increasing its down-proofness. Calendaring of the fabric further enhances the down-proofness of the quilt.

All of our under quilts make use of baffle (also known as "box baffle") construction. This means that the seams between the down-filled chambers are not sewn through, but instead consist of a fabric wall about .75 to 3 inches tall, depending on the model.

Temperature Ratings

At Hammock Gear, we use temperature ratings which are very conservative. Compare them in the marketplace and you will agree. Here is a point we wish to emphasize: the first and most important step you must take when choosing an under quilt by temperature is to Know Thyself. Are you a Cold sleeper, a Warm sleeper, or maybe a Really Warm sleeper? Factor this into your selection process and you will be much better off. With under quilts, the more you experiment, the more you will dial this in.

  • Amazingly Warm

    by Tommy (Eagle) – 30th Mar 2015

Have used the Incubator 20 for years now, been down to 10 before and still was very comfortable. Just purchased a new one for my son to use, it was 17 this past weekend and he was so amazed at how warm he stayed. The quality is second to none!!!

  • Simply the Best of the Best!

    by Sardog1 – 14th Mar 2015

First impressions of the Incubator 20° Long (Woodland Camo) are nothing but positive. Close inspection reveals stitch perfection, attention to detail and a well thought out design. The suspension system allows for nearly infinite adjustment with no unwanted sag. Since I just received the UQ, I can't honestly comment on performance in various temps but at first glance, I know it's going to perform well.

Thanks to the crew at Hammock Gear for producing top notch gear and their stellar customer support for the hammock community.

  • Very Warm

    by Mattgyver – 7th Mar 2015

This quilt is amazing, kept me way warmer than my friend in his 300 dollar ENO quilt. Temps got down to the mid 20's, with snow and freezing rain, kept warm all 3 nights! Quick delivery, and very good customer service. They were able to get it to me way before my planned trip, and at short notice. Thank you guys! I will be recommending you guys!

  • Legendary! Quality!

    by Justin Fischer – 6th Mar 2015

This product does great in temperatures even lower than 20 degrees. Simply add a sleeping bag as a top quilt and your night with be filled with comfort. The staff is exceptional! I spoke directly with management from Georgia, very informative and kind! Ask any question and expect an answer that goes above and beyond. Thank HG for your exceptional services, allowing me to continue on adventuring!

  • Great quality, amazing service

  • What to improve on...

    by Unknown – 13th Feb 2015

The good: stitching, baffles, fill power, customer service, speed.

Needs improvement: Pictures, Pictures, Pictures. Underquilt Could be a little wider.

    The bad: nothing.

This one or the competition.? For an underquilt I sligly liked this one better. I liked the profile of the quilt including the differential cut, the baffles, the lighter fabric.

  • Awesome Product

    by Michael – 7th Feb 2015

The quality is awesome and the shipping was much quicker then I planned. Warmth of this item is exceptional. Thank you. It's nice to see American made products at a fair price with that much quality.

  • Awesome Product

    by Piratekiller – 6th Feb 2015

Love it!!! I got my incubator a couple of weeks ago and finally got to take it out. My buddies and I went up to Newport State park in Door County, WI for the weekend. It was dark the first night when I set it up so of course being my first time with it I did it wrong and froze :( The next morning when it was light out. I noticed my problem and was able to set it up correctly. It dropped from 40 deg down to 12 that night. I was toasty warm in my hammock that night! Long story short I love this under quilt and recommend it to anyone looking at getting one. I cant wait to get back out to use it.

  • Simply the best!

    by Bryan – 5th Feb 2015

My brother and I each got a 20 deg. incubator. They are amazing! We both researched independently and came up with this UQ. Look around and compare. These are the best, period! We've used them down to 19. Been in the 20s multiple times, and I always sleep well. I've also used as warm as the upper 50s and am still comfortable. Super well made! Is $250 a lot of money? Sure, but look at comparable sleeping bags and UQs. The Incubator is a BARGAIN given the quality. And top-notch customer service to boot. Stop reading this and order one now!!

  • Top Quality

    by Robert C. – 2nd Feb 2015

I have not had a chance to take this into the field and have only used it once in the back yard. The temp was in the low 30’s and when I laid in the hammock I could immediately feel the warmth coming through. I was wearing a t-shirt and sweat pants and new immediately that I would be warm all night. This is a high quality piece of gear and great customer service. Jenny and her crew took the time to answer my questions and help me out with the proper selection and size. My only suggestion would be the addition of larger storage bag for the time between hikes. This piece of kit is highly recommended!

  • Incubator 20 +2oz overstuff

    by Richard – 30th Jan 2015

After reviewing different styles and types of underquilts, I finally chose hammock gear. I am glad that I did. The worksmanship is exeptional, and easy to adjust.

I took this on a hammock hang with some friends. This year was not as cold (32 degrees) with light wind. I purchased the Incubator 20 with +2 oz Overstuff. It performed well and I was warm.
Be sure to hang your hammock at the recomended 25-30 degree angle or manufacturers specs. Not doing so may allow some of the bundle to be tighter than the rest, resulting in lifting. Or causing some of the hammock to bear the weight while the rest sags some. The side of the quilt that goes against the hammock is flat. You want to be sure your hammock is flat against it.
I am planning on using my hammock inside my apartment and it can be a year around thing.

  • Incubator 20

    by Craig Lambert – 28th Jan 2015

Every now and then you run into a product that the class leader.....the Incubator is one such product. It is unquestionably designed and constructed at the highest quality possible. It is evident that Adam and crew have incorporated extensive research and testing into the design and build. I highly recommend the incubator for any hammock camper. The unit comes with a packable bag that in minimal in size and of high quality construction. One suggestion would be to add a larger storage bag when quilt is not being packed for the trail. I have not used the quilt in the field yet but do not anticipate any problems based on extensive previous reviews. I did have trouble receiving the exact quilt that I ordered and had to return the first shipment. For some reason I received different colors than ordered and the gross grain was coming off the corner of the quilt. However, exchange was quick and painless; return shipping was covered by Hammock Gear. Again, this is class leader and is highly recommended.

  • I Love It!!

    by Rifleman – 15th Jan 2015

I tried the pad method, but did not like it. Finally took the plunge and bought the Incubator 20. So far I have slept through a 26 deg night and was toasty warm. (That is the coldest temps I have seen in my part of Texas since I got it.) Took me a bit to save for this purchase, but it is well worth it. Thanks!!

  • Hammock Bliss!

    by AndyU – 8th Jan 2015

Ordered the 20 with 2oz overstuff for my nx-250. Customer service was awesome but overshadowed by the greatness of the under quilt. I finally tested it last night in 3 degree temps and howling wind. I used my 15 degree bag as a top quilt. I had on long underwear and a down sweater. I was cozy all night. It fits perfect on the clark and was easy to adjust. The little plastic d rings on the quilt makes it easy to adjust if needed. I see a 0 degree in my future.

  • No More Cold Butt Syndrom

    by Patty Gaunce` – 3rd Jan 2015

I purchased the Incubator 20 Short with 4 extra ounces of fill. I am normally a cold sleeper even in the summer. Not any more. My plan to use my hammock every month is now possible. No matter how cold it is outside. Inside the hammock with the Incubator underquilt. there will be no CBS. Used it for the first time just after Christmas 2014. at 22 degrees F. Slept straight through the night no problems. Thank you Jenny for the great customer service and prompt replies to emails. Hammock Gear Rocks!

  • Great Customer Service

    by Kaytieann – 2nd Jan 2015

I ordered the Incubator 20 for my nephew only 2 weeks before Christmas and didn't really expect it to arrive in time for Christmas. When I ordered the item I was told that these quilts are made to order and it normally takes three weeks to assemble and ship them. The gentleman I spoke with said he would try his best to get it shipped in time for Christmas but it probably wasn't very likely to happen. The item was shipped in less than a week and arrived in plenty of time for Christmas. Thank you so much Hammock Gear!
The quilt is compact and light weight and seems to be of good quality. I can't comment on how well it works in the cold, as my nephew has not yet used it.

  • Quality Assembly

by Runs with Sissors – 24th Dec 2014

I ordered the Incubator 20 with +1oz of fill to satisfy my curiosity. I am traditionally a MYOG kind of guy, always tweaking everything and never satisfied. There is a lot of talk about the Incubator 20 being the "GO-TO" UQ. I had to try it out for myself.

I have to say this quilt was put together well. The stitching is not only functional, but purdy too.

I tried it out the same night I received it in the Linville Gorge. It did not get cold enough to really put it through the paces. I was hoping for some low 20's or teens, but no luck. I initially had some cold spots and had to play around with the suspension, but that's the case with any UQ.

By my nature, I already have some mods in mind. I hate all the cordage on UQs, so I have some thoughts to incorporate some of Dutch's hardware into my UQ set up to eliminate the cordage. It's in my head right now, but I'll post an update on the forum when I figure it out. Again, nothing wrong with the quilt, just my constant urge to tweak everything.

The quilt is quite compact and light. Much lighter than my DIY UQ.

It didn't loft as much as I expected, but I don't care as long as I hit my expected temps.

I tried my Incubator 20 on my Hennessy Explorer Dlx and my DIY gathered end hammock. It work fine with both with some adjustments.

Praying for some downright fridgid temps for my hike in January at Uwharrie with my TLUSA troop.

Thanks again Adam for the quality work! I will be back for my next top quilt.

    Walk Worthy!

  • hg incubator 20 +1oz

    by runswithsissors – 24th Dec 2014

I received my HG Incubator 20 w +1oz and strung it up for a camping trip to Linville Gorge that very weekend. Adam worked with me because of a shortage in my 1st choise of fabric because of supply issues. I'm not picky, so I chose another subdued color an he got it right out to me.

I already see some improvements I want to make to fit my own liking. Nothing wrong with the quilt, I'm just particular. I don't like any corded suspension system an am thinking of incorporating some of Dutch's hardware to my UQ to attach directly to my hammock. It's all in my head right now, so I'll work it out and post on Hammock Forum. I'm a DIY kind of guy, but wanted to try the incubator since it has such a large following on the forum.

I have used it with my DIY hammock and my Hennessey Explorer Deluxe. Both work fine.

Stitching is to notch! It's no only functional, but purdy, too.

This was what I expected. I was hoping for colder temps to put it through its paces. But I can't control the weather.

Great job Adam! I'll be back for my next TQ.

    by Josh Camp – 19th Dec 2014

I have bought a lot of products from "cottage manufacturers" and although I have had nothing but awesome experiences, this purchase exceeded all my expectations. I'm truly appreciative with regard to the high level of attention to detail and overall customer service. I ordered a 20 degree Incubator in black (which I would guess is their most popular model) on a Sunday with a note included that I was hoping to use it on a trip just 8 days later. Honestly, Considering that it was a specialty product shipping from Ohio to Georgia, I did not expect to have it in time for my trip. I was extremely impressed when it showed up on day #5. I was able to use it on my trip to Seattle where I spent the night at Ranier and the Olympic National Forest in temps down to the 30's. It was super easy to set up and I was toasty every night with nothing more than an open sleeping bag. Thank you so much for the attention to detail and logistical efficiency. You have a customer for life.

  • Easily covers all the area's

    by Paul Haws – 3rd Dec 2014

I used this under a Warbonnet Black Bird fit easily and as snug as a bug.
I was using the 20 Incubator around the 50'S so of coarse I was perfectly warm. I can not wait to give it a try close to the true temperature rating.. I set this up so easily

  • Accurate temp ratings

    by Tucker – 27th Nov 2014

After one night out using my Burrow 20 TQ and a foam pad in the high 30s and ending up with a cold back, I decided to pull the trigger on an Incubator 20. I took this out backpacking in WV last weekend and slept VERY comfortably in the 20s. I was toasty warm all night. I thought it had only gotten down into the 30s at night, but when I woke up to my water bottle frozen solid I realized it had gotten pretty cold. Sleeping with an underquilt is so much more comfortable and hassle free than sleeping with a pad. If you are thinking about buying a top quilt and holding off on an underquilt, don't. You don't know what you will be missing out on. The build quality on this quilt is 100% perfect. I even lost the stuff sack after testing it out one afternoon and they shipped me a new one free of charge after I ASKED to buy it from them. That is what I call customer service!

  • First time out - 24 degrees

by Bill in Georgia – 18th Nov 2014

I just bought two 20 degree incubators - one for me and one for my 14 year old son. I bought it based on the recommendations of a friend who has been hanging with an incubator for a year or so. The underquilts can in the mail about 2 weeks ago. When we unpacked them, I was impressed with the build quality. I set up my hammock and new Incubator in the back yard and lauded in it for about 15 minutes before I had to deal with a work issue. Dang job!

The first real time we got to use the Incubators, was on a Boy Scout camp out this past weekend. As luck would have it, a cold front moved in and the temperatures dipped into the mid 20s. It got down to 24 degrees . Previously, my son was using pads and I had a 3/4 length underquilt. Both of us slept nice and warm all night long (including using a hot Nalgene water bottle for a little extra warmth). Even with a breeze coming in off the Lake, I was comfortable all night long. For me, Hammock Gear's product temperature ratings are conservative.

I would highly recommend Hammock Gear's products. I look forward to many season's of use out of my Incubator.

  • Does what it says

by Blaze (Hammock Forum) – 15th Nov 2014

After speaking with Adam I decided to order the Incubator 20 degree underquilt for a quick November over night. Adam was able to get the order to me quickly and once getting it in the mail I headed out after work the next day. I ended up having to hike in the dark with a misting rain and temps in the high 30s. Once at the camp site and with cold hands I found the setup extremely easy and intuitive even for me who hadn't ever used an underquilt before...out of the bag, attach two S clips, pull the ends tight and you're set...that easy.

So you'll ask, "did it keep me warm?" Yes. It got down to 32 degrees and I never got "cold butt". I'm 6'2" and the standard length and fill was just fine. The sides come up and around you nicely so I felt surrounded by warmth all night long. Oh, by the way, the wind blew 17mh all night long and I still didn't feel it in the Incubator.

Adam, great job! The product is great and the quality of your work is perfect.

  • Awesome UQ Very warm1

    by John Gray – 31st Oct 2014

After playing around and getting this under quilt dialed in I stayed very warm on my last section hike on the AT. Very easy to get dialed in on your hammock. Great product and customer service!

  • Better than advertised

by Hang em' High on Hammockforums.net – 29th Oct 2014

Ordered to Incubator 20s for an upcoming trip. I reached out to HG for some advice on use with a specific hammock. I received immediate communication and was asked to take a few measurements of my hammock and email them in. HG then made some adjustments at no cost to me to ensure that the quilt would fit properly. Amazing service. In addition to no cost adjustments, HG also shipped my quilt to me in time for a shorter trip so that I would be able to check the fit and send it back for any necessary adjustments, also at no charge. Well I didn't need to send it back because it fit perfectly the first time around. The performance of the quilt is well documented and I will say that it is warm just as promised. Purchased an Incubator 20 with 2oz of overstuff and I was so warm in 30deg temps I had to pull my topquilt down. Customer for life. I wish I could give them 10 stars.

  • My first UQ

    by Henrik J. alias Snowball on Hammockforums.net – 23rd Oct 2014

I am a new ”hanger” but only two trips with pads convinced me it wasn’t the solution for me. I was considering a DIY under quilt but after a few YouTube videos with down all over the place I was convinced otherwise. Some YouTube videos and reviews later HG products was on top of my list mostly due to craftsmanship. When it arrived I wasn’t disappointed! I know quality when I see it. It is truly craftsmanship. I am impressed by the stitching in this ultra thin material and the details.
I selected the Incubator 20˚ (-6.6°C) with 2 Oz overstuffing because realistically I don’t think I will be hanging much during the winter time and if I do 20°F (-6°C) should be sufficient for most of the time. Winter nights rarely gets colder around here.
For me it was expensive due to import tax but HG is not to be blamed for that. BTW I am from Denmark.
It has been used several times for napping in my “hammock lab” but sadly I haven’t had a chance in the woods yet and won’t get a chance in the next months or so but I cannot imagine I will be disappointed.
I did not really know what to expect regarding the temperature in a UQ because I did not have anything to compare it to. Did not think I could compare it to a sleeping pad and I was right. The first time I tried it was a big surprise like a fire below the hammock for a moment and then the temperature stabilizes. No regrets here.

    Keep up the good work.
    Greetings from Denmark

  • Pretty dang awesome

    by Trent Arrington – 20th Oct 2014

I just got my 20 degree incubator in today, and it is pretty dang awesome. Super good quality and light weight. I love it so far. Went and put it on my hammock and immediately felt warmth coming from it. Granted it was in the upper 50's but still really awesome. I can't wait to try it out below freezing. Also the customer service was incredible. I had to make a change and they were extremely helpful. If i can afford it in the future I will be coming back for a top quilt.

  • Look no Further

    by waylesswayfarer – 17th Oct 2014

New to Hammock Camping and the Incubator 20 is my first UQ.. I couldnt be happier, fantastic service, quality thru and thru and the UQ does its job. I just spent 3 days 2 nights in the Dolly Sods Wilderness, WV and sure glad I had the Incubator 20 in my pack. first night pouring rain all night 45 deg,, warm and not a cold spot, I used a 20deg down sleeping bag for a TQ, 2nd night 33deg, never flinched,,snug as a bug in a pod, warm baby warm! Look no further, this is the real deal!

  • Instant comfort and warmth

    by GoatHanger – 17th Oct 2014

If you are here reading reviews because you are contemplating an underquilt, don't waste any more of your time. BUY THIS QUILT. You feel the warmth building IMMEDIATELY upon laying in your hammock. I'm not kidding, it's instant. If you've used a pad or are currently using a pad, there is NO comparison. The suspension is great, the thing is incredibly warm, it's light, and it packs down small. Stop reading now, and place your order. You're welcome ;-)

  • Perfect

    by Andrew – 11th Oct 2014

Shipping was fast. I was expecting top notch work based on reviews all over the web, but when it arrived, I was taken back at just how nice of an under quilt this is. Tons of loft and feels durable enough to take a severe beating for many years in the woods. Used it recently in the Dolly Sods with temps dipping into the mid to low 30's at night and I felt like I was sleeping in my bed at home. I'll never use a pad in my hang again. Thanks for the great product.

  • THE BEST Products & Customer Service

    by Brian K. – 11th Oct 2014

I have nothing but good things to say about HG. From the time I emailed Jenny to the time my order arrived was a pure pleasure. I had multiple questions and changed my order a few times, yet I was always treated with respect and patience.

The products I ordered (20* incubator /burrow, CF hex-tarp, and a couple pillows) are exactly what I expected. This isn't just hype folks - this company puts some serious TLC into their products. It's very evident that their staff have great training and have a passion to make the best gear. I had such a great experience I ordered more gear for my wife within 1 week of receiving my order.

I'm positive you will find my experience is not unique. So, go ahead a place your order, I assure you it will be money well spent.

  • Great U/Q!

    by Oscar – 9th Oct 2014

I needed my quilt in just over a week. With a few emails back and forth, it was determined that HG could fulfill my request. It arrived earlier than expected and the customer service was top notch. First use of the quilt was very simple. I had never used an U/Q before and I'm a hammock rookie. I had the U/Q set up perfectly in a few minutes. Very easy to use.

Wow, did I stay toasty warm! Temps hit mid 20s that night and I couldn't believe how toasty warm I was. I'm thinking I can easily take this down to the single digits. I'll soon find out with the November deer season approaching!

  • Must own for hammock campers

    by jcblough – 8th Oct 2014

I got one of these made for my ENO doublenest hammock. I tried it out for the first time this weekend on an overnight camp. The over ngiht low hit 45 and for most of the night, I was too warm if anything(I had it snugged up against me). I have also slept with it in my game room with it hung loose and it was comfortable there too. The build quality is outstanding, cannot recommend enough.

  • Works like a charm

    by George L. Paul – 10th Sep 2014

I used the Incubator 20 underquilt for the first time on a 4 day backpacking trip along the Black Canyon of the Yellowstone. It interfaced very well with the Warbonnet Traveller 1.7, and kept me so comfortably warm. It appears to be the state-of-the-art in underquilts.

  • Superb quality and warmth

    by Jordan – 8th Sep 2014

I had the 20 degree Incubator under my hammock in the BWCA in September. Overnight lows were in the 40s and this quilt performed excellently -- no complaints on warmth whatsoever.

The quality of this quilt is immediately noticeable. This is a quilt that is built to last. The fabric, stitching, consistency of the down, etc. are all top-notch.

  • Better than expected!

    by Ryan M. – 26th Aug 2014

This full length underquilt with 850GD was my ticket to hammock camping bliss. First night using it was upper 30's and I used it in combination with my 20 degree bag. I woke up sweating at 3AM and had to unzip my bag and use it in the same fashion as a top quilt. I was totally thrilled as I've tried using sleeping pads to keep warm and still wake up several times throughout the night cold. I have very low body fat and need lots of insulation to stay warm in general and especially when I'm sleeping. The full length quilt even kept my feet warm. Previously I would always wake up with cold feet in my hammock. This product has far exceeded my expectations. Thanks!

  • Works well down under

    by Daniel – 7th Aug 2014

I ordered this with all the extras - extra loft, extra length - Hammockgear is upfront about the lack of contact which caused concern - the product took 4 weeks to arrive in Otago new zealand (about as remote as it gets from the USA). Apart from this - the product is great - fits my Hennesy Hammock well and is lightwieght and toasty warm (use in -5'c temp) - would definitley reccomend to anyone - good work!

  • Great quilt!

    by Unknown – 2nd Aug 2014

I purchased this incubator 20* underquilt and a borrow 20* top quilt for my first hammock hang last week. This underquilt fit my BB hammock perfectly. The temp outside was in the high thirties to low forties and i was very comfortable in a tshirt and scrubs. I didn't wake up once during the night with any cold spots. Very happy with my quilts! Top quality.

  • Awesome Service

    by Keith Foster – 30th Jul 2014

I have wanted an incubator for a while and finally received it as a birthday present from my bride. My under quilt was damaged and was totally my fault. Adam and Jenny were quick to respond to my wife and they worked out a solution. I have my incubator 20° and it is truly a piece of work. I can't wait til colder weather. Truly oustanding company. They aren't just selling gear, they take pride in helping and truly caring for their customers. I am a hammock gear customer for life.

  • Works well beyond what i expected

    by william hutch – 30th Jun 2014

I took the under quilt for nine days on pct in sierras under my hennessey hammock zipper model. It rained and was windy gusting into well into the 40mph range and still kept me toasty warm. The only complaint is the brown isn't as good looking as the pictures on the website. It's more off a lighter brown than dark brown which doesn't take away from functionality of product. I would buy another and highly recomend them well worth the money.

  • super nice with hennessy hammock

    by Unknown – 21st Jun 2014

Very nicely made. Attachment and adjustment is simple and secure. Much, much more comfortable than a mat. It's easy to use with the Hennessy "birth canal" opening and doesn't leave a cold spot as it covers the slit. HG provided an excellent purchasing experience. If you really enjoy sleeping in a hammock this is money well spent.

  • Amazeballs

    by NorCalGal – 20th Jun 2014

I'n not sure I will be able to properly convey exactly how amazing my UQ is. First off, thank you Adam for such a spectacular piece of equipment. You were so accommodating with my order. Anyway, I ordered a 10 degree UQ because I'm a girl and I'm a cold sleeper. I tried it out on overnights around Mammoth in Muir Wilderness. The weather wasn't very cold but it dipped into the 30's and I was so toasty warm. I know, I know, a 10 degree in the 30's I should be warm, but I have no doubt that I can actually sleep down into the low 20's upper teens and stay warm. I will be trying that out this coming January in Yosemite. I HIGHLY recommend buying from Hammock Gear. I will be coming back to buy a burrow around Christmas. Thanks again!!

  • I would recommend this to someone else

    by Malkus – 27th May 2014

Really warm and comfortable. I am a little concerned about how some of the elastic cords will hold up long term.

But the incubator and burrow make a great combination and provide an amazing nights sleep.

  • excellent workmanship - awesome performance

    by HoosierDaddy – 12th May 2014

After some discussion with Adam on the phone I decided to go with a standard length 20 degree incubator with 2 oz overfill and a standard length, wide width 20 degree burrow with 1 oz overfill. He mentioned he had some burnt orange fabric so I went with it and black for contrast. They turned out awesome! Finally got to use them a few weekends ago and I could not have been happier or more comfortable with the results. The first night was windy and in the mid thirties - I was toasty!! I actually vented the underquilt a bit. The second night was in the 50's - my wife was cold the first night so I traded my TQ for her sleeping bag and I was still toasty using just the UQ primarily. I would recommend HG. Adam's reassurance that he would make it right if what I ordered didn't work for me was the clincher for me. I will be ordering more products soon for my wife as she also is in love with the downy warmth the Burrow provided. :-) Thanks Adam!!!

  • Add me to the Satisfied Customer List

    by Jason – 9th May 2014

Could not be happier with the quality of the UQ. I will be ordering my top quilt from Hammock Gear very soon (have to save my money). It is very much worth the money. Wife and son are wanting on now as well; If you've only used a sleeping pad in your hammock, try an UQ, you'll never go back to the pad. I appreciate the quality and detail given to Hammock Gear's products; if you're thinking about purchasing a product from Hammock Gear, stop thinking and buy, you won't regret it!

  • Excellent

    by Mike – 6th May 2014

Excellent product. Asked Adam to make one and then I would order another after testing it out. I bought another one. Haven't taken it camping to canada yet but I will test it out this weekend. It has been very warm in the yard. Adam was very accomodating in getting me the second incubator before my trip. I appreciated the inconvenience on my tight deadline. I would order again

  • No complaints of coldness!

    by Amanda – 6th May 2014

I was the only hammock camper with an under quilt AND I was the only hammock camper without complaints of not sleeping well throughout the night due to coldness! I slept so well and had no area that was felling left out in the cold :) My only regret is not investing in one sooner! It's so easy to setup and adjust. And I couldn't get over how easy it is now to get situated inside my hammock... no more wiggling and squirming to get situated inside a sleeping bag or yanking and scooting to center the theramrest just right for insulation! The under quilt is so soft, comfy & warm! I am so happy to have made this purchase! All the other hammock campers with me on that trip was green with envy!!

  • Great Underquilt

    by Matt – 30th Apr 2014

I ordered the 20* Incubator in long, with the standard fill and it works great! I have used it on several outings with the temp ranging from the 30s to 50s. It is extremely warm and I am very confident that it would keep me warm well below its rating. It really feels as if there is a heated blanket underneath the hammock. I was able to loosen the ends in the warmer weather and it did a good job of not overheating me but still keeping me very comfortable. The product was delivered within two weeks of ordering which is satisfactory in my mind being these are made to order. The craftmanship and quality of the Incubator was excellent! I was hesitant to purchase this to begin with but I am very glad I did - it is well worth the money and a great piece of gear that I expect to last a very long time.

  • Excellent for Hennessy

    by Ghostbuster – 29th Apr 2014

Thru-Hiking the AT this year and this is one of the best things I bought. Packs small. Set-up is more than easy after first use and adjustments. Occasional minor issues with cold spots are easily remedied by increasing tension and positioning hammock broadside to wind, as should always be the case.

Works for Hennessy, in case you are wondering. Just have to wiggle and pull a little to get it square under you.

  • nice piece of gear

    by Eric – 28th Apr 2014

Under quilt is very nicely made. I ordered the 20 degree model with no extra down added and the quilt was warm into the mid twenties easy enough.
Thanks for a good piece of gear.

  • Must-have Hammock Gear

    by Mike Mara – 21st Apr 2014

Let me start by saying this is an excellent underqulit … I love it. I tried sleeping on a pad in my hammock and could never keep it in place and could never get comfortable. The underquilt completely eliminates both issues. My only suggestion to new buyers is to take the time to adjust it before you hit the trail. I have a Warbonnet Blackbird and sleep in the diagonal position. I found that my feet would push the foot end of the underquilt into the centerline leaving my feet uncovered. I made a line with a couple of s-biners and some elastic cord. I attached one end to one of the tie points on the underquilt go over the hammock’s ridgeline and attach the other end to the matching tie point on the other side of the underquilt. This kept the foot end of the hammock in place even with the offset foot box. I noticed that the web site now has Ridgeline Quilt Hooks … probably a more elegant alternative to my poor man’s solution.

  • The best in the business...

    by Pizza – 16th Apr 2014

The Incubator20 degree to me is the best under quilt made hands down. The design is pure genius with the baffle construction and versatile suspension system. The Argon fabric options are the icing on the cake. This is the best under quilt I have used and I've used many other quilts from other vendors over the years but Hammock Gear to me is at the top of line.

  • Finally Warm in a Hammock!

    by Justin Huffaker – 15th Apr 2014

This product has done the impossible... I was able to stay warm overnight in a hammock. Great product, great customer service, great people. Hurray for Hammock Gear!!

  • A work of art

    by Yukon – 10th Apr 2014

Each and every time I get a new quilt from Hammock Gear, the quality of workmanship is simply amazing. I have never had a thread out of place, or problems anywhere else. It's always great to deal with them, and the prices great. Thanks again!

  • great fit and warm

    by Unknown – 10th Mar 2014

What a great product! Top of the line materials makes this the best hammock under quilt. The elastic drawstring helps to create a perfect fit around your hammock to keep wind from blowing under you. i have the 20* incubator and have been down to 25* with no problems. you have to buy one!

  • You get your monies worth plus very knowledgeable owner

    by Carlos – 3rd Mar 2014

I ordered this 20 degree incubator with 1 oz over stuff from HammockGear on the day after Christmas and it came in just in time for a trip I had scheduled. I have been able to try it out on three separate occasions now. Once in the 30s, once in the 20s and lastly once in the teens with a lot of wind so I am sure it felt more like single digits. I was perfectly comfortable in the two within its range and survived better than I anticipated on the lower end of the scale. I would definitely recommend this quilt as it is high quality and worth far more than what they are priced at. Call Adam and speak with him as he will guide you in the right path to find something to meet your needs.

  • Amazing !

by Thos. Nelson Jr. – 24th Feb 2014

Wow!The workmanship, quality and FUNCTION of this underquilt is absolutely amazing! I could not be happier with my purchase or the great customer service. Do not have any reservations about ordering an Incubator!

  • Don't hesitate... Push the button... Order one!

    by Garrett Jorewicz – 21st Feb 2014

I am a gear freak, probably just like you... I can honestly say that this is the single BEST piece of camping/backpacking equipment that I own. The quality is unsurpassed by anything on the market. I ordered my 20 degree Incubator with 2 extra oz of down fill so that I can push the temp rating down closer to 15 degrees. I've used it in temps as low as 23 degrees and I was toasty warm all night.

The key to making the Incubator work properly is to spend the time to get it setup properly. The first time I used it, I just hooked it up and went with it. While I was very warm at first, as it got colder, I began to feel a cold spot in the middle of my back. However, on my second night, after engaging the secondary suspension and pulling the UQ a little more tout, the cold spot was then eliminated. Take the time to dial it in and you will be extremely satisfied!

As for the materials... Beautiful. Soft. Sexy. Love it! Stitching was perfect. You won't find a higher quality product at REI or any other camp store.

That said, if you are on the fence or if you are hesitating for any reason what-so-ever. STOP HESITATING! Place your order and reap the rewards! Like me, you'll probably also want to compliment your 20 degree Incubator by picking up a Phoenix 40 (just got mine) for warm summer nights.

    You won't regret it.....

  • Get Incubated!

    by Kevin S. (Slammer) – 15th Feb 2014

Got my incubator 20 w/ 2 oz Overfill this week and it's Nice!
Fits my Hennessy Backpacker very well. I set it up first night for a test run. It performed flawlessly,
Heating up like an electric blanket.
The low was 29 and I used a 10* ZPacks on top and whew, nice and toasty. Had to vent several times.
In short - get this UQ! Ditch the pads and foam.
Quality and delivery is 5 stars! Customer Service 10+

    by MattTaylor – 27th Jan 2014

I got a 20 UQ/TQ and used it in 18 and 21 degree nights this week. Excellent product. I stayed warm and slept great. Setup was much easier than I expected, they appear to be built with great attention to detail. I expect to get many years of use from them.

  • My first Underquilt

    by Lyle Sinor – 23rd Jan 2014

The Incubator 20 was my first underquilt. I shouldn't have waited so long! Craftsmanship is excellent - attention to detail outstanding. Have tried it with a Hennessey hammock on two occasions at temperatures around 20 with a good breeze - kept me nice and warm with a 20 degree rated topquilt and thermal underwear. Suspension was easy to set up and kept the ends of the underquilt close to the hammock. The camo also looks really nice!

  • Just the best your money can buy

    by George Carr – 2nd Jan 2014

Got to use my Incubator 20 last weekend on an overnight hike. Temps were in the mid 20's and I was never less than toasty warm. What do I think about HG's Incubators? They're the best underquilts your money can buy - I should know, I've owned 5 of them!

  • Wonderful - accurately rated

    by Grouchy Redneck – 31st Dec 2013

This was my first under quilt from Hammock Gear. It's absolutely wonderful - I can't believe I waited so long to get one.
I got the 20-degree and added 2 extra ounces of down to achieve ~35% overfill. I've slept in this down to 14-degrees with a matching 20-degree Burrow. I wore lightweight fleece to bed and a fleece balaclava,. A tarp protected me from the wind. 14 is about the limit for me without a hammock sock - I sure can't complain about that!
Adam is great to work with and happily answered question after question during his busiest time of the year.
Thanks Adam, more orders to come...

  • great and easy to use

    by Scott D – 20th Dec 2013

I ordered and received a 20 degree long version with 2 ounces of overfill for a DH TB regular length. It fits really well even on an asymetrical lay and I love the extra coverage of the long version even though it was unnecessary as I am only 5'10". The specs for my quilt were exactly 83" long and 44" wide and 27 ounces so I think he stuffed 4 ounces of overfill in and only charged me for two. I haven't had it on a trip yet but tested it in my backyard at 16 degrees and slept warm all night with a WM 20 degree sleeping bag as a top quilt. The quilt hooked up in seconds and was easy to cinch in tight thanks to a well designed bungee system. This will be my go to quilt for most everything but the middle of summer and the coldest days of winter. I am thinking of ordering a custom deep winter version that I saw on one of Shug Emery youtube videos when I save my allowance up again.

    by Nathan Kilps – 18th Dec 2013

I literally received the incubator 20 degree under quilt as I was leaving for a weekend winter camping trip. We were camping in the northern kettle moraine area. The wind and cold never touched me. My only problem was that I had to get out of it the next morning. Also the service and communication was fast and friendly. A+ company! Thank you and keep up the good work.

by paddlemule on hammock forum – 21st Nov 2013

Got this based on a friends recommendation and have been nothing but happy with it. workmanship looks great. Obvious they pay attention to detail. Wish the draft tubes were just a bit fluffier but has not failed to keep me warm on two 30' outings. Definitely like the full coverage. Thanks again for a great product.

  • Top quality

    by Eric F – 18th Nov 2013

I didnt have any custom requests or rushed delivery or anything. I just ordered from the website and they came a week or so later. I bought two of these and you can tell right away they know what they are doing. The construction is excellent. The suspension is very well thought out and i find no need for any triangle things or any additional support for my diy, Hennessy, Clark or Warbonnet hammocks. Probably going to buy a couple more for the rest of the family. Only had it down to the upper thirties and was toasty but its fluffier than my 20 deg sleeping bag so im not worried if the temp drops. Like i said probably going to buy a couple more,

  • Amazing! Simple and warm

    by PatrickM – 14th Nov 2013

As many have said I was skeptical of spending that much money on a quilt, but now that its here Im very glad I did. I've had a few restless nights in my hammock sleeping on a ground pad...have to readjust the mat, weird folds, and just being uncomfortable, but with this you just snap it on, tighten it up a little and you're good to go!

Couple the easy and comfort with the quick email responses and fast delivery I will be purchasing a top quilt from hammockgear very soon,

  • Satisfied bigtime!

The is my first UQ. I was a little skeptical about dropping the bucks for my Incubator 20 , but thrilled I did it. This sucker is so warm and toasty. I'm excited to use it on future hiking / hammock camping trips. The service was fast, friendly and very satisfying.....so satisfying that I also bought a top quilt, the Burrow 20 and I'm loving it as well. Thanks Hammack Gear!

  • Great gear and Great Customer Service!!

    by Cole H – 23rd Oct 2013

I called the Guys at Hammock Gear and he was very helpful. We talked for about 20 minutes about what would be my best option. And being a down home type of guy, he didnt try to sell me on the most expensive piece of gear he had. He asked my height, weight, type of hammock, what type of weather....etc and together we made a choice.

I opted for the 20 degree incubator. after 2 weeks of prancing by the front door it finally arrived. And let me tell you, that piece of gear is artfully constructed. I have not had a chance to use it, but i went in the back yard and laid down on the patio chair and used it as a blanket. in 40 degree weather, it was amazing! i was so warm. Also, he gave me a small discount which helps a poor guy like myself. I will most definately be ordering my top quilt from them when funds permit!! I cant wait to actually get the rest of my gear together and use this thing in the bush!

If you are considering an underquilt, but aren't sold yet, give these guys a call first. very friendly, helpful and just down right awesome!

Thanks HammockGear for the help and the product. My roommate will be buying some stuff in the near future also from you guys. he was so amazed and how light and how warm it was.

    Thanks again!!!

  • Great product and outstanding service

    by Steve Ross – 11th Oct 2013

Hammock Gear was very open to my request for expedited delivery due to an upcoming camping trip. My Incubator arrived 2 days earlier than expected and in plenty of time for the trip. I needed to purchase S-Biners to hang it on my Warbonnet Blackbird, and the suspension is less than intuitive (to a novice like me) but once it was on the hammock it was amazing...so warm and no issues with coverage, air pockets, etc. The product is extremely well designed and constructed. I am so happy with the purchase and would recommend the Incubator as well as Hammock Gear wholeheartedly.

  • Magical Quilt of Hope and Wonder

    by Ryan Barker – 1st Oct 2013

I bought an Incubator 20° for my Warbonnet Blackbird. It only took me a few minutes to make my proper fitting adjustments, and now it fits perfectly and sets up in seconds. Wonderful. I haven't used it in super cold weather to test it- my trip was 40°. Nonetheless, I was toasty using just a light weight 40° summer bag. I was very pleased with the results. Plus, HG expressed shipped my quilt just to make sure I had it in time for my trip- two thumbs up!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

    by Mark Rulli – 27th Sep 2013

Don't know where to begin. This is the lightest bag I have ever owned (12 5/8 ozs with cuben fiber stuff sack). The quality of the construction and materials is as good or better than my MontBell or Western Mountaineering bags, no easy feat. I used the bag on a recent trip that was in the low 50's under the Zpack Pocket Tarp. It was rainy and windy all night, but I was warm and more importantly COMFORTABLE. I didn't even have the foot section pulled tight. How you guys make such a great bag for such a reasonable cost escapes me, but just keep doing it. Thanks for making my new favorite piece of gear.

  • customized Inc 20*+2oz long version in Switzerland

by Chris (HF: pravenda) – 27th Sep 2013

Rhight out of the box, I've started indoor testing: setup was quick and easy. The longer version match perfect to my length and the length of my DH DB 11'. The smoothness of Argon and the little weight is fantastic. Outdoor Test start at this weekend, but for a real test it's way to hot. By the way: I got a Blue Mauritius: HG Logo is upside-down. It doesn't matter to me, but make this piece of excellent gear somehow more specialized. Great Job, Adam and Jenny

    by C dizzle – 24th Jul 2013

Amazing product from an amazing company. I needed my quilt in time for an upcoming trip and wanted custom colors done on it. HG got it done way before my deadline exactly as I wanted it. Used it for the first time last weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the comfort and ease of use. Don't spend nights trying to stay on your pad when you can get wrapped up in an HG quilt. This product is amazing and I will definitely be following up my under quilt purchase with a top quilt for my next trip. I highly recommend to anyone even thinking of going with a quilt. Thanks Hammock Gear!

  • Outstanding!

by Rich "Basie" Churcher – 15th Jun 2013

The Incubator is my first underquilt, in use with my first hammock (a Blackbird XLC). It got its road test during a recent trip to Mt Aspiring and Fiordland National Parks in southern New Zealand.

Service during ordering was first rate. The UQ must have been in stock as it was dispatched almost immediately, and it only took 9 days to travel all the way to NZ. It arrived in perfect condition. Construction quality is clearly very high. The Incubator is light but has a robust feel to it.

Even for a clueless newbie it was easy to rig on the hammock, and slide into the correct position. Very warm straight away, and even better performance once I had it adjusted right. I had wondered whether the 20 degree version with no overstuff would be sufficient for the conditions, but it handled several nights out in the frost without complaint.

    Whole-heartedly recommended.

  • Custom Incubator a Roaring Success

    by DaddyDaddy – 28th May 2013

If you're thinking about the Incubator, or any product from HG, get off the stump and go for it. First, Jenny and the entire crew were so awesome to me. I wanted a custom fabric for my Incubator 20* and figured time and cost would be a factor. The speed with which they got my UQ together and the value was beyond my expectations. Everyone from Jenny on down treated me like I was the only customer they had. Quick responses to, what I'm sure were redundant questions and with such professional enthusiasm. I actually had a chance to test it out this past weekend and was, to say the least, over the moon about it's quality, performance, and ease of use. Just gotta save my pennies for the HG Cuben tarp next.
Thanks HG for a great product and a great experience.

  • Great product and even better customer service.

    by Rob. C – 30th Apr 2013

I am new to hammock camping but have many high quality sleeping bags ( feathered friends and WM) and this products performance blew me away. I haven't had it down to 20 yet but I was amazed on a cold night how much warmth this quilt produced. I was ver pleased. They went out of the way to make sure I had it for my trip. Thanks for a great product and service.

  • Best product that I'll never be able to use

    by Doppler – 24th Apr 2013

I'm new to hammock camping and just recently assembled my first set of hammock gear. I bought the incubator based on its weight, ratings and reviews. I was so excited to get my new underquilt that I didn't even notice that it wouldn't fit my hammock. Of course I didn't bring a tent, a sleeping pad or any brains as a back-up for my new gear.

I promptly headed out to Shenandoah National Park for a long weekend when an unexpected snow storm cropped up on the first night. As the temperature was dipping below freezing, I realized my oversight, and that I was too far down the trail to get back to my car before night fall. I had gotten myself into a bad situation!

I managed to rig the incubator to my hammock with some 550 cord and S-biners. The setup wasn't perfect (I still had some air pockets), but it was enough to keep me from freezing to death as the temperature dropped into the mid teens. As advertised, the incubator kept me safe below the 20 degree rating that Hammock Gear gives it.

The next morning I hiked my stupid self back to the car and drove home. When I e-mailed Hammock Gear and told them what I had done, they quickly responded with a "glad your okay" and they even let me return the quilt!!!

The bottom line is that the incubator does everything that it is supposed to do and then some. It is well constructed, light and backed by a proprietor that takes pride in their business. I have just about talked my wife into switching to a hammock... her quilts will come from Hammock Gear!

  • Great Quilt!

    by Gary_Greenville_NC – 8th Apr 2013

I used the quilt this weekend for the first time. It got down to 32 one night I was camping. We also had 10-15MPH winds. I stayed warm and comfortable in the hammock all night. I did have to adjust the quilt toward my feet after the first night. That is all it took to make it the most comfortable I have been in the hammock at that temperature.

  • Great Piece of Gear

    by Sir Afro – 12th Mar 2013

I received the 20* incubator and set it up on my test-stand on a Hennessy Explorer DLX; barely any adjustment necessary! I've taken it out on 2 overnighters hikes in the Eropean backountry. Temps were down to 30* & 32* and the incubator performed excellently. No cold spots, no drafts, just blissful warmth. Then there's the great construction quality! Order one NOW! You won't be disappointed.

  • Extra wide incubator

    by Silverback7 – 21st Feb 2013

I received my special designed incubator UQ in a timely fashion.
I payed an extra 30 dollars ,and had them make it 10 panels wide (49") instead of the standard 44" 9 panel.
I'm an extra wide at the shoulders guy and figured I would need the extra width.
I'm very pleased with the extra coverage,
It comes up around my shoulder as desired and is a perfect fit.
I got the standard length and fill 20 degree
I would recommend this mod to any 250lb
    56" chest gorilla type.
The folks at HammockGear are the best
I may send it back later for more fill
    Well worth the price.

  • Amazing Product

    by JoWottowa – 20th Feb 2013

I am a hammock newbie and I received my Incubator 20 and Burrow 20 the day before a weekend hike. Having never seen a UQ before, I had it hung and adjusted in under 5 minutes. The first night I climbed in wearing only a thermal base layer and got scared because I was not warm at all. 5 minutes later I was toasty warm despite the temps being 23 degrees. I slept all night with no adjusting or cold spots. The next night I went without a tarp as we were planning a very early departure and with temps hitting 27, I again slept all night with no adjustments to the quilt system.

MANY THANKS for such a great product and wonderful company. I will be ordering a summer setup as soon as possible! There is certainly no reason to look anywhere else for hammock quilts.

  • Great light eight warmth

    by Light Adrenaline – 13th Feb 2013

I've been wanting an underquilt ever since I converted to hanging and came across the Incubator 20.

I've tried it with both my Warbonnet Blackbird and Clark Jungle Hammock NX-250 - both of which I purchased before I ever discovered Hammockgear.com

I was concerned that the suspension bars on the CJH would interfere with underquilt use (CJH sells proprietary insulation which is costly and bulky), but I was happy to find that it worked just fine! The same goes for the Blackbird.

The craftsmanship is top notch and hanging it couldn't be easier.

I know other manufacturers don't use a top--cross shock cord, but I don't find it gets in the way at all. What I mean is ,you have shock cord that run the length of the quilt and then through the BOTTOM of both ends to add tension at the head area and foot box - but this ALSO has a cross cord where the two ends where the length of cord come out on the top corners. I simply use it as additional grip on my hammock ends.

Overall it's excellent and is true to it's rating. I took this down to 22* and after about 1 minute, I was good and warm. Slept one night in thermals, but was more comfortable just in briefs the next night. When hung correctly, there are no cold spots. For me as a warm sleeper (except for feet), I think this would be good down to maybe even 15. Maybe one day I'll push it, but not too many crazy cold winters in the southeast.

I would give this 4.5 stars, but it's not an option, and it's not worth docking a whole star, so let me explain my "quibbles":

    1. There is a longer version available, but would like to see one that's like an extra 2 baffles or so wide just to get better wrap with wider shoulders and more coverage in the foot box.

    2. Um, at $240 one would probably expect a storage sack. None given. You get a stuff sack, but just like with down bags, who's gonna store it compressed? I picked up a cheap laundry bag a Wally World, but come on, it's an easy, thoughtful, obvious.

Overal it's superb. Communication was slow around the holidays, but that's to be expected a little. Also keep in mind they are made to order, so there is a wait usually of a few weeks. Shipping is wicked fast.

Overall, very satisfied and if I ever stop using my sleeping bag as a top quilt, I'll come here looking for one.

  • Very happy with the UQ

    by Unknown – 11th Feb 2013

This is my first UQ by a cottage vendor. The first thing that comes to mind is trust. Being I ordered 2oz overstuff, and this is my first quilt, I believe they overstuffed it! But, I wouldn't know the difference anyways.

The construction is top notch and the suspension is very useful for adjustments. I used this in my yard in WI with my WBBB, sleeping bag top quilt and no tarp. It was 28 out with a stiff breeze making it around 15. I tested it with no tarp to get a real sense if warmth. I was not toasty but adequate with jeans, fleece and fleece jacket and wool socks. I was also hanging over snow so I am sure the wind was robbing my warmth from underneath.

I am glad there are loops near the footbox so I can be sure it stays in place as I move around to feet protected

I do think it will be a great hang once I tarp it at my next outing

The service was super fast although I am not used to buying things without speaking with some I purchasing from. The reviews at HF were enough to go without speaking to them and I am glad I did!

Thanks HG for the great product!

  • Staying warm, no problem

    by Ron G – 24th Jan 2013

I recently purchased this underquilt for a winter hiking trip to Linville gorge I don't like being cold, and I alwyas have cold feet when I sleep, so I was a little skeptical about the insulating value of the quilt. I carried my existing equipment just in case. Including a MH down 26 deg bag, and a tremarest +20 deg liner.

First night in the Gorge it was 19 deg, I was a little chilly climbing into the hammock, but after a few minutes that quickly went away. I had all the gear in place, I was ready! Huh, 2 hours later, I had shed my socks, under armor legs, and shirt. I was down to the underwear and a little sweaty.First time ever I have not had cold feet while winter camping! I was in disbelief. The second night, it was only 23 deg, so I didn't even bother with the usual long johns and such, but by about 2:30 am I was sweating again. That was amazing!
Next trip I am not using the sleeping bag as a bag maybe as a blanket. I can now use just the +20 liner, and a small blanket for the top spots.

This quilt is awesome, it hugs the hammock on each end so well there is no way for an air gap to occur. The tailoring is such that it is like laying in a cocoon. it comes up over my shoulders in my blackbird, and unlike my 3 season quilt, this one doesn't move at night. I own a cut and sew shop, and I was very impressed with the quality of the seams and the workmanship, not to mention the design. This was well thought out. I would highly recommend this quilt for any camping in cooler weather.

  • Kept Me Toasty Warm!

    by RenegadePilgrim – 25th Dec 2012

I got this on a Friday, took it out on Mt. Hood the following day for a quick overnight winter snowshoe/backpack/hang. It dipped into the 30s with a bit of overnight snow and I was nice and cozy in my hammock with this UQ keeping my backside warm. The craftsmanship is top notch and I appreciate the attention to detail.

  • toasty downy goodness

    by SilverPalm2x on Hammockforums.net – 25th Dec 2012

I got this for Christmas and set it up this afternoon. I am very impressed with the warmth it provides. It was around 52º and I was very toasty in the backyard. I could feel wind blowing around on top of me but but entire underside was wonderfully warm and almost too warm. I will have to experiment with venting it for warmer weather but it was very cozy and warm. It was a great way to spend the afternoon! It was easy to hook onto my ENO singlenest suspension. The adjustments for both ends were easy to use. I like the differential cut so that my body is wrapped in more down and that is what made me pick Hammock Gear for my FIRST underquilt.
