Material Information

Down under quilts have proven to be, without question, the preferred choice for insulating the underside of the hammock. Due to the weight, compressibility and versatility, they outshine the alternatives by a landslide. Their thermal efficiency has allowed brave campers to push the boundaries of cold weather hammocking. Virtually every hammock camper has experienced - through his or her learning curve, the dreaded CBS, or "Cold Butt Syndrome". And virtually every owner of an under quilt has effectively learned how to avoid it. Once you have experienced a down under quilt, you will "never go back".

Hammock Gear provides a full-length under quilt - the Incubator Econ, and a 3/4-length under quilt - the Phoenix Econ. They are known by many to be the most effective on the market today. One of the primary reasons is this: the Incubator Econ and Phoenix Econ are the only commercial under quilts designed with a contour which mimics the shape a person makes when they are laying in a hammock. One of the added benefits of this construction technique is that it leaves a "flap" of fabric along the top and bottom of every down filled chamber. This extra fabric acts as a "floating baffle" which stabilizes the down and helps prevent its shifting. Another reason our UQ's are popular is this: they contain the ideal amount of down stability - the down stays put when it should, but the design allows for enough manual shifting of down when necessary.

Quilt orders placed on or after 4/22/19 have a lead time of approximately 4 weeks to ship.  Lead time is subject to change.

All of our quilts ship with a 24" x 36" Storage Sack and Stuff Sack for backpacking.

About the Economy Incubator

The ULTIMATE underquilt for guaranteed comfort at a low price... The Standard length Economy Incubator is long enough to generously cover most hammock campers up to about 6’ 1”.  Our Economy Incubator series utilizes downproof 1.1 oz / yd² (20D) Calendared Nylon Taffeta fabric and 800 fill power DWR Treated Grey Duck Down. This underquilt will protect you in temperatures down to its temperature rating. If you are looking for an underquilt that is hassle free and will allow you to enjoy your hammock for more months of the year, you have found it.

The Economy Incubator comes with 9 anatomically contoured, differential cut baffles that run the length of the quilt. One of the things this construction technique does is to greatly reduce the shifting of down that is sometimes more noticeable in quilts made with premium down.  This is one of the reasons Hammock Gear quilts are always 15-20% overstuffed. The differential cut, contoured baffles also provide the highest level of fit which is critical to keeping warm. The Economy Incubator comes complete with our state of the art shock-cord suspension system, featuring color coded s-biners that help you to easily orient the head and foot end of the underquilt for a quick and effortless set-up. All of our quilts are shipped with a complimentary cotton storage sack, and a nylon stuff sack!

Duck Down

Hammock Gear is committed to providing down products that meet RDS (Responsible Down Standard).  RDS certifies that geese and ducks are treated ethically (no live plucking or force feeding) and the down is traceable back to the source.  Both our Premium and Economy quilts use down that meets the Responsible Down Standard. Econ Incubator 20

Posted by Ryan on 10th Jun 2019

I ordered the Econ 20 UQ in Sept 2018, and HG was very responsive in making sure I received it in time for a trip. I've used it several times in shoulder season trips with my Hennesy Expedition zip (and a sleeping bag - no top quilt yet). It's kept me very warm in temps into the 40s and 30sF. In the 40s nights, I found myself laying on top of my sleeping bag a fair amount, it was so warm (*huge* improvement over the klymit sleeping pad I was using before). The stock Hennessy tarp is notoriously small, and I'll probably upgrade for a better coverage tarp now, b/c the UQ hangs lower and gets a bit wet in some spots in the rain sometimes. However, the fabric seems very water repellent, and I never noticed it impacting performance. Once the wind got blowing directly into the end of my hammock, and that made some cold spots b/c I think it was blowing a gap open at the neck, but that can be adjusted for. Overall very happy with the purchase, and am saving up for a top quilt now!

Great product only problem I have is that it does not fully cover my feet due to the type of hammock I’m using. Using the el dorado from Warbonnet and it has a foot box that this underquilt is unable to cover only used once. I would have returned it to get Warbonnet’s but had it for a month or 2 before the first use

    Econ Incubator 20

I have bought tried and shipped MANY different quilts from many different manufacturers...This is by far the highest quality quilt i have come across, and at a price from much lessthan the other ones (a few of them of much lower quality). I ordered the 20 after spending about 20 mins on the phone with Harry in customer service and he advised me this would be a great 3-3.5 season quilt while still being light and pack small enough to be used in summer., I can say that I was comfortable laying in my hammock in 20 degrees for about 2 hours (and im sure all night if i stayed out), and with the ability to vent I was comfortable all the way up into the mid 60's. Exactly what i was looking for...thanks for taking the time to talk on the phone and advise it was one of the most pleasurable customer service experiences and one of the highest quality products I've ever purchased. thanks guys!

The Hammock Gear Economy Incubator is a great choice for anybody looking for an affordable, packable, durable, and well made underquilt. I've been able to use it a few overnights since receiving it, and it has kept me warm down to the rated temperature. Thank you Hammock Gear!

I recently received this underquilt and have been extremely happy with it so far. The build quality is excellent and it doesn't feel "economy" at all. I had the opportunity to use it in some colder weather a few weeks back and I slept very warm and comfortably in it.

I think for the price, it's hard to beat the quality and performance. A great starter underquilt that's definitely got more life in it than as just a starter item.

Purchased this for my son as the camp pad was a pain to adjust over and over again. we have used this a few times now and its nice and light, packs down nice and very easy to setup. I have the premium on order for myself.
