About the Premium Burrow

The Premium Burrow works for both hammockers and ground-dwellers alike. It is a lightweight sleeping quilt that takes the insulation of a traditional sleeping bag and puts it all on the top and sides, leaving the back (which insulation is compressed and unusable anyway) open. Many hammockers use top quilts in lieu of a traditional sleeping bag because they are easier to slide into when it's time to sleep. The Premium Burrow is designed with a half taper, vertical torso baffles, foot box and a cinched top. Comes complete with a stuff sack and storage bag.

Filled with the finest water resistant, 850 fill power or 950 fill power goose down on the market, the Premium Burrow is the finest top quilt we offer.

Goose Down

Hammock Gear is committed to providing down products that meet RDS (Responsible Down Standard).  RDS certifies that geese and ducks are treated ethically (no live plucking or force feeding) and the down is traceable back to the source.  Both our Premium and Economy quilts use down that meets the Responsible Down Standard. Exactly what I needed

    Posted by UAV7259 on 29th Mar 2018

I was looking for something light for my backpacking trip and when this was suggested, I was skeptical. No reason to be! It kept me warm and was easily packable. I loved the versatility of my sleeping positions with this quilt. I used it with my hammock and on a sleeping pad. Thank you for making a durable high quality product!

    So Disappointed

Posted by Marco C. on 22nd Mar 2018

I spent a lot of money on the full Burrow 10 version after having purchased and enjoyed the econ Incubator under quilt. I got the Burrow with the snaps so I can use it as a sleeping bag or blanket. However, the idiotic snaps wouldn't stay snapped and i resnapped them about 12 times through my first night on a 30 degree night on the AT in Georgia. The 55" width should have been good enough to keep me wrapped up but it seemed impossible to keep snug within the quilt. I had to wake up and put an emergency blanket lining my hammock since the quilt wasn't fending off the cold well enough with the difficulty of staying tucked within. The second night was slightly improved though the stupid quilt just didn't keep me secure inside. I stayed in a shelter on the third night and a fellow camper had an Enlightened Equipment quilt that had multiple fasteners that kept him inside his quilt. It seemed much better designed. The bottom line is that I way overpaid for this quilt and am sorry I purchased it. I love the Hammock Gear Incubator as well as the Quest Rain Fly and Mesh sleeve but the Quilt was not what I hoped for.

    Response from Hammock Gear:
We have implemented our new design as of April 1st to avoid snap issues in the future. We're terribly sorry about the issues with your quilt and will rectify that immediately for you.

In a few words, please title your review

Posted by Your Name on 16th Mar 2018

Have used this on multiple occasions and it has performed outstandingly. While using this in my hammock for the first time it took some time to get my adjustments right with this and my 20 degree econ phoenix, but after that i was warm and cozy all night in mid twenty temps. Also tested this out on my roof deck of my apartment. It was 30 degrees with a decent wind. Had my old school hand me down thermarest with this quilt and was warm and toasty for the time i was out there except for me naked head haha. Definitely worth the buy. Oh and customer service is on point! Was able to deliver in time for my planned trip when I asked if that would be possible!

    First Experience

Posted by Rich L on 19th Feb 2018

Used this for the first time on a 3 day backpacking trip along the AT. Night 1 included temperatures in the low 20s. Had this coupled with my 20 degree econ phoenix. Unfortunately my set up acted as a wind tunnel so I had a hard time staying warm until i decided to pull the quilt over top of my face and my upper body was able to warm up a bit. Night 2 was in the 30s and had no problem with the same set up. Was warm and toasty throughout the night! Love the versatility of quilts in hammocks. So much easier then bags!

    Just in time

Posted by Preppersteve on 14th Feb 2018

Picked up another Incubator 10 and Burrow 10 to keep the wife warm on a trip to Yosemite last weekend. The nice weather turned to snow on the last day and she was happy and warm. These quilts are made to perfection and the small details are amazing. Thank you so much for getting them done before we left.

    Perfect for summer!

Posted by Lynn on 2nd Feb 2018

I bought the Burrow 50 to use for summer camping and backpacking. It is extremely well made! I have not taken it out on the trail yet, but turned down the heat and slept under it in a 55 degree house. I was toasty warm. It is so light, I was afraid it would move around when I turned over, but no, it stayed in place and didn't slide. I anticipate using it in April for a camping trip in eastern NC, and for a Georgia section backpack of the AT in June. Thanks for the quality and reasonable pricing!!

    As good as I hoped

Posted by Don on 4th Dec 2017

I normally carry a Marmot Never Summer 0 degree down bag in the late fall and winter. After learning more about top quilts I decided to make the switch.
I just wrapped up my first weekend out with the Burrow 10. I ordered mine wide, and with a sewn foot box and I could not be more pleased. The overnight temps were around 30, so I have not pushed this quilt to the limit yet, but I was very warm and comfortable. Of particular note is the foot box. I tend to get cold feet when I sleep and usually wear down booties overnight. I had no need for booties while using this top quilt. The foot box was surprisingly warm. I also changed sleeping position several times in my hammock and never uncovered a cold spot, likely thanks to the extra width. It compresses down to nearly nothing and packs 2 pounds lighter than the sleeping bag it replaced. This quilt was worth every penny.

    Toasty Warm

Posted by Marc on 3rd Dec 2017

Bought myself this top quilt to go with my matching 30 deg bottom quilt. The lightens my load by over half a pound ditching my 30 deg sleeping bag. And I am toasty warm. I'm going to test it out this winter on a below 30 day because I'm pretty sure I can take this combo down into the mid 20s. Fabric is great and the workmanship is top notch.
